Title: I keep killing tires.
Post by: Joseph Davis on July 31, 2009, 09:50:40 AM
Third in a month, the last two in under 18 hours.  I feel like I'm starring in Final Destination.

I hopped in this damn thing and drove it for all of fifteen minutes, thought a weight had fallen off the wheel as it had a mild vibration that varied/went away at various speeds, smelled hot rubber and heard the tire hissing when I got out of it.  I sure as hell didn't think the belt had broken in multiple places and was trying to exit stage left as individual strands.   ???

Not my cars.

The EP3 cracked a 19" in two places, the 35 series sidewalls are so stiff the tire looked full of air even though there was a hole worn in the inside sidewall.

I finally replaced the tires on the CRX 2 days before it took a shit.

Previous ones had belt showing through.  The two front ones had what looked like tears in the sidewall.  One had a hole in the sidewall but was still looking somewhat inflated?  Driving on a wet road above 40mph made adrenaline pump.  Hitting a puddle would make you cross fingers.

New ones are much fucking nicer.  Takes 10x less effort to turn the wheels.  Car died before it rained so I haven't been able to test that out but was looking forward to it.

You have bad luck or should quit buying used tires.

You asked me before if I had seen this. Its worst-case what happens when you rotate tires side to side. The belts push against each other instead of constantly pulling tension.

i bought a wrecked paseo a few years back, the car had been sitting for about 3 years and all the tires were totally flat/smashed down(i bought it for the rims/motor).
i pumped them up and 2 held air so i threw them on my corolla, these fuckers had cracks that were 1/4'' deep on the sidewalls totally dry rotted but the tread was still deep.
i ran those tires for 2 years strait every day 30 or so miles every day.
the one day i forget my cell phone at home one of the tires lets go, oh yeah it was -20 that day and windy as fuck.
i had to drive to the houses near where i was and ask to use a jack and wrench, somehow i took them out and never put them back in.
total fail, my buddies used to make comments on those tires all the time about they would blow any sec.

My friend's EP3 had the whole damned wheel fall off. Nogs at the brake shop decided to torque his lug nuts with their 5000ft/lb gun, from which 3 of the studs snapped off.

Funny thing about my current car, I've had the same tires for about 6 years now. Yokohama Parada Spec2's, most awsomest tires you can have on the street IMO, at least for daily driving. Their more common ES100's suck ass though.

Jd, you need to cut off your tread with a kitchen knife, then fill in the dry rot cracks with shoe polish, and you'll have slicks to pass track inspection.

Doing 60mph
 (https://realhomemadeturbo.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi64.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fh193%2Fd112crzy%2Ftire.jpg&hash=1af9405d9c705e9d3627e37f4907e6adca18eb22)

The tire was still inflated and had drove it another 100 miles @ 40mph. That fucking sucked.

Trailer tire exploded on the interstate on the way to taking widebody's car to the dyno. Scared the hell outta me.

I think you haven't experienced the Y-49 curse because your Y-49 reached through time to make you pay your penance, before you ever bought the vehicle.  No wonder it's been a good vehicle to you.  At this point it loves you.
