Title: Problem after headgasket change...
Post by: Jorsher on August 03, 2009, 10:14:20 PM
A friend's CRV blew a headgasket.

We got it all back together, started it, and there's smoke coming from the front of the engine block.  It runs shitty, little power, sometimes dies on its own at idle.

Shitty headstuds or headstuds need more torque?

He reused the headstuds and they were way overtorqued.  Needed a breaker bar to get them lose.  Never seen any on that tight.

No idea what else it could be.  Ideas?

Nah not upside down.  Gonna take off the heat shield tomorrow and see exactly where it's coming from when it's daylight...

Why did it blow? Did it over heat?

Why did it blow? Did it over heat?

Pretty sure, he said a coolant hose blew and it was overheating.  Not my vehicle so not 100% sure on the whole story.

Did anyone straight edge the block and head?

Anytime a head is overheated it should be decked. Its cheap and you already have the head off. 40-60 bucks and not ripping the head back off,PRICELESS

I'm hoping the smoke is shit burning off the block, and the shitty running is due to timing.

Will find out in a few hours...

BACK:

smoke - remembered the exhaust manifold got a good dose of pb blaster, must be where the smoke was coming from

running shitty - friend whom i had verify timing at the crank didn't do it right, seems like a couple teef off, will fix tomorrow.
