Title: So I sold the Dirty B20 today and this is what just happened
Post by: ApexSilver06MR on August 04, 2009, 11:55:04 PM
I just sold the DA teg.

http://www.realhomemadeturbo.com/forum/index.php?topic=4405.msg64248#new (http://www.realhomemadeturbo.com/forum/index.php?topic=4405.msg64248#new)

19 year old kid buys it for cash

i took him for a rip in it

and i let him rip on it on the way back from the test drive

I get a call from him a few mins ago saying the turbo seized up and he blew the motor.

I did specifically tell him that i was selling as a parts only car.

The bill of sale that i wrote up said...

Im selling my 90 acura integra for $1800 as a parts vehicle only as-is condition.  I will not be responsible for smog nor will give any type of warrenty's or guarantees what so ever.

both him and i signed it.

he knows it was boosted, told him  i was selling for a parts vehicle only and both of us signed.  I knew i shouldnt of sold it to this kid but the money looked so good in front of my face.

What should I do?  Am I supposed to give his money back???

I had a similar thing happen, though the funny part was I told the kid the engine was fucked and he decided to try driving it anyways. I was nice enough to pick him up, pay for the tow to the local mechanics and buy him dinner while we were talking about "what would happen". I eventually told him to get bent.

Do not give him the cash back.

If this shit was happening to you, you would never see your money back.

Jay,

He bought a car with a turbo and a motor that doesnt belong in the car according to california law.

It was an off road vehicle

Future events do what i said to do in the first place

Thrown stock intake/manifold/smogged sold as a normal car. Sold turbo alone.

I have had to many friends who have dealt with this hence why I was telling you to do that. Selling turbo hondas unless its too a friend is nothing but trouble

I doubt it's anything so glorious.  My money's on the charge pipe blowing off, and the kid stood on it seeing if the boost was going to come back until the turbo locked up.

i sold a turbo civic to some kids before. car was a 99 civic ex with 56k miles on it and had been boosted at 8psi for about a year and a half never had a problem, wasnt like i raped on it daily either though. sold it to this kid, told him dont do long 5th gear pulls and only use premium gas from a decent gas station not that Am/Pm shit. get a call three months later him sayign that somebody told him that the turbo was blown and he was askign me where i got it from, told him local wrecking yard and he was like oh ok. asked him why he thought it was the turbo and he said it was because its making a knocking sound and kinda smokes a bit, said he let his friend turn the boost up to 18psi to see how fast it would be lol. told him good luck with his rod knock and the turbo is fine but have fun with the swap that he is going to be doing very soon. never answered his phone calls again

what is it with these fags and not being able to diagnose simple problems, and follow simple instructions.
sold my turbo car to a guy who had to drive it to milwaukee (90mi), i had a hood scoop for the the intercooler but when it rains really hard it would get water past the spark plug boots. i told the guy this, he calls me like 3 hours after buying it saying he wants the money back because it blew the head gasket. i told him no way the gasket was blown and asked him what was wrong, he said it would misfire and stutter. asked him if he remembered what i told him b4 and he says yes, so i said fucking pull the wires and blow out the spark plug holes. god damn

kids today don't pay attention in school. That, and we don't hardly have classes like machine shop and auto tech in high school anymore.

Instead we teach them home ec, or ceramics, or art class, and they grow up fucking retarded. Then when they see shit on TV and movies like fast and furious, and stupid street magazines, they just catch bits and pieces of car info, like turning the boost up, but have no idea the science of what is happening. then do dumb shit hoping someone smart will fix it AKA you.

Actually most go to web forums. read about 10 minutes a day for 3 months and know everything

If most would just go buy a car and actually work on it like basic shit and learn how to be a man.

my cars are always sold with a bill of sale.

I had one come and bite me in the ass. I went to the house to try to help the dude with the car, showed him the bill of sale, and offered my assistance and he said he wanted his money back. I said, see you in court and left.

I always always always sell cars with a bill of sale. I put in there the car is sold as-is, and 'both parties are agreed as satisfied'

Ouch!

Offer the kid some knowledge and advice and maybe a lil' assistance teaching him how to do things properly and how/why they work the way they do transform him from a no nothing ricer to a at least semi knowledgable kid that knows whats goin on under the hood.

My High school didnt have anything except an auto class run by a 60 year old man who had given up on teaching. I spent about 5 minutes in that class per day. Get there for attendance and bounce out and go mob the the dohc zc for the rest of the day. A dollar gas ruled.

From what my step mom has told me(30 years with school district in southern california) is about everything has been cut and by far the worst she has ever seen. Alot of schools for sports have to privately funded here now.

Tuned friend's ghetto-rescue EX w/ebay kit (10.9psi with 57trim, z6), he pulled some 14.1's with steelies, sold it a week later, was blown the next day. Apparently he didn't realize cranking the boost another 10psi with a stock MAP will lean it out like no tomorrow. And throw a rod.

My HS never had automotive, just a half-ass metal/wood shop class that was a complete zoo. Didn't stop me from rebuilding my 67 bird's sb 350 all by my self, before intreweb had good info on it. Graduation day I did 2 mins of donuts & brake stands in the parking lot.

Too bad you didn't listen to JD, look at the car, offer 75% refund, fix/flip it and have even more money.
