Title: L&I electrical inspector jurisdiction
Post by: ryan89crx on August 06, 2009, 07:28:15 PM
Main question, can an L&I residential electrical inspector come on my property and go into my shop to inspect my panel without my permission...aka tresspass?

bought my house last year, full fenced backyard with a small 16'x24' shop in the backyard. everything done, electrical, insulation, etc. i BELIEVE that the permits were in order when it was buil...back in like 2001

2 weeks ago hatchbox90 came over and added a 220 outlet for my welder. the shop was already 220, just didnt have a receptacle. go out to my shop today, and there are several papers stapled to the wall near the panel saying that it was in violation of code, i would assume because i didnt get a permit or have it inspected(big fucking deal, its going to be removed when i move anyways).

my main bitch is how the fuck did the city know i altered it? nobody can see in my backyard, and the work was done in a matter of 20 minutes or so, and is in no way visible to anyone but me. and why the fuck was there a city inspector in my GATED backyard, and in my fucking shop inspecting without letting me know or asking permission? the paper says he came on 7/30 and the residence was locked, and then on 8/5(yesterday) when the papers were put up. wife was home all day, why the fuck wasnt she told?

pics of said atrocity

I would get the cops out there and press charges for trespassing.

If he/she was not let in by the owners of the property, they have trespassed.

stupid me for never locking my shop, but thats solved now...as well as Master Locks on both gates

i would ASSume when he came on the 30th, my dog was in the backyard so he didnt wanna fuck with it. yesterday she was probably inside.

im pretty pissed of really, but what can i do? i wanna call and fucking scream and throw a fit on the phone, but that wont change shit. what can they do to me if i just ignore it? they cant shut my power off, the only thing i know of is that i cant sell the house until its resolved. but im not planning on doing that anytime soon

Got any good pics of the paperwork?
ya, gimme a few

just heard a story about this the other day.
if you get a building permit the inspector can come on to your property, when you sign the permit you agree to it.
if you had no permit then they have no right to come on to your property and it is trespassing. call the police and tell them what happened, if the guy ever comes back just call the police and say this guy is repeatedly trying to trespass on my property.

there is a permit for the building...back in 2001, but the permit # on the paper doesnt match the originals in my garage panel.

on another note, i think either my neighbor ratted me out, or he is the inspector

pink sheet has my address, white ones are printed with his address, not mine like they are supposed to

I would press charges for trespassing.

Period.

For all they know, any and all work that is in your garage was approved already.

Say you're going to press charges for the violation, see how they react.  They went to the wrong address and fucked up big time, don't let this slide.  Also, get something in writing that those bullshit fines are not going to be stuck with you.

Oh, and your brand new tig (which was a gift, no receipts) is definitely missing.
