Well I never got around to posting my setup @ HMT, so here it is for rHMT
First Specs:
-TV 60" Pioneer Kuro PDP - 6010FD
-Receiver Onkyo SR875
--------------I bought both the TV and the Receiver a year too early they both have integrated networking now-----------
-Viewsat 9000HD Sat testing box
-Toshiba HDDVD player (yes I am one of those people who jumped the gun)
-Sony PS3 80gb Metal gear SE version, it will play PS2 games, I just use it for Blueray 95% of the time though.
-Cabling is all Energy HDMI (got a really good deal on it)
-Harmony 880 remote to control everything (but the PS3 it uses bluetooth)
-Front Speakers are Polk Monitor 60's
-Center is a Polk CS2
-Sub is a Polk PSW404
-Rears are Polk Monitor 50's
-Media servers = One Dell D630, one HP dv6000, and an older desktop on wireless upstairs with an external 1TB drive all together 2 TB of storage capacity. Wireless router is right behind the couch.
Next upgrade will be Polk RTi A9's in the front, the monitor 60's to surround, the monitor 50's to surround back.
Ok, onto some pics:

Our current setup (our being myself and one of my roommates) isn't that impressive. The sound system is a mix of Onkyo and Whorfdale pieces. The current tv is an old JVC 32", but I am currently repairing a 62" Mitsubishi 1080i DLP projection tv. And we have a PS3, XBOX 360, and the Wii, along with pretty much every mainstream gaming system except for PS2.
I'll post pictures once the TV is working. The circuit board has about 12 blown capacitors (but I got the TV for free so it's ok). Also the sound system was given to me by my parents since they are selling their house and don't want to have to move it all haha

I remember I had a TV back in the day that you set each channel manually. You had buttons down the side and there was a scroll knob under each button that you manually dialed in the tv channel. That was also back at the launch of the NES haha.

I paid $300 for the game off of craigs list. the guy had a garage full. I could have gotten that old sit down sega Game, red , 3D shapes..you fly a spaceship lookin thing..
Anyway, guy delivers it, goes on and on about the Tv and stereo and guitars... This was a friday
Sunday night I get back froma trip and someone has tried to break in. The only other person who had been in the apt at that time was my GF. Long story short, cops found his finger prints all over the door, but no arrest...they did visit him though.. Door was fucked up, but held. I now have 2 Deadbolts and an Ithaca 12 Gauge under my bed.
Funny thing is , that TV was only $1300 CDN, the guitars are all knock offs ,squire strat I got for $60 off of ebay, 70's epiphone les paul knock off...
The only thing of real value was the D16 with TT rods, ARP's and Vitara's in the closet..
The TV and DVD player will do 1080, it's not the best resolution compared to LCD's, but the couch is a good 20 Ft from the TV, and I just don't like the look of a really HD TV with Blue Ray, movies look fake as hell... just my 2 cents.
next up is a coke machine.

I figured I'd bump it up... I bought a Blu Ray player this weekend- Samsung 2550 (used on ebay for $140). After doing some research, I wanted a Blu Ray player that was VERY good at upscaling standard DVD's since I have a shitload of them. Well, research concluded that I wanted a player with the Reon chip (slightly less powerful than the Realta chips that are super expensive).
The downsides to this player are compatibility issues with certain discs (supposedly fixed by a firmware update) and slow load times. We'll see.
The other thing is I only have a 1080i Vizio plasma, so the sexy progressive scan capabilities won't be taken advantage of... yet. However, I'm sure the blu ray discs will look better than standard DVD (480p?).

Foowee needs to post up his S/NES system.

Audio questions-
1) If my blu ray player has DTS- Master Audio decoding, my audio receiver will not need this decoder, correct? Any other decoders I should make sure I have with a receiver?
2) On the receiver, there are 3 HDMI inputs. I would like to plug in the blu ray, xbox 360, and cable box into the receiver. If I don't want the surround sound on (TV speakers only), do I still have to keep the receiver turned on to select which source is being used? I would assume so.

Nice! How does it sound?
-
I like it. The S A N S U I (why there's a word filter, I dunno) needs a recap, set bias, and deoxit as the dc voltage in the outputs is a bit high on one channel. It's all original so it's time for a little maintenance. Other than that, sounds great to me. These Zaph BAMTM's costed about 280 to build, and many audio folks say they sound as good as many 1000-2000 dollar off the shelf speakers. My only complaint is the bass from them isn't quite as tight as I think it should be, but I think reworking the And because I'm an intellectual being, ui will fix that. Sub could use a sub-equalizer too, but I've adjusted the port and filling on it and got it sorta flatline.
-
i'm a little home stereo-retarded. I need a good, cheap "head unit" that has an input for a standard audio connection (like to hook up an mp3 player or my laptop). Any recommendations? I also have two old speakers I basically dumpster picked, but they have the old school clamp-on connections and my tv has the newer plug-in connections... is there a way to convert the speakers easily? or should I just throw them away? I guess ideally I'd like to hook the tv and speakers up to the "head unit" to serve as the amplifier for the tv and so I can play music with my laptop. Is this possible with my shitty old speakers? WTF.
-
And because I'm an intellectual being, ui
why would a word filter change s a n s u i to the above?
-
The word sanz (with an s at the end) is filtered because it's a bit pretentious. Most people just use the word "without"... means the same thing but less fancy.

That strip along the bottom of the TV? There are a couple of speakers there. It's like being in the theatre. O0
-
one day im gonna gank my dads Marantz
I've got 4 marantz SP800 speakers (old as hell, 8in woofers, 4in mids, 2in tweeters). Only two in my dorm at the moment. Also have a pair of bigass Fisher floor speakers from the 80's. Not sure if I'm gonna grab the marantz or the fishers to add to my system.
Its running off a shitty old Aiwa reciever and a car audio amp (also shitty).
For TV I've got a 27in olevia 720p connected to my dell laptop with HDMI. Tons of movies stored on an external drive, and basically any other one I'd ever want is on my college's local file-sharing network and takes about 10 minutes to download.
Its a ghetto mix of stuff I grabbed out of my basement/garage, and is still way better than most people's stereos here.
