so ive been reading some stuff saying that when you build a twin scroll you need to pair the runners.
how important is this.
say i wanted to build a log manifold, would that be totally stupid on a twin scroll turbo.
you typically want 1-3 and 2-4 together right.
-
maybe ill eliminate the twin scroll. and run it like a single scroll.
-
yeah the point of running divided is to increase the pressure on the turbine wheel by separating the exhaust pulses. running a log is not separating pulses.
-
The Twin is normally used with a tube style equal length manifold.
If you don't use a Tube mani, it's defeating the point of the housing.

But you dont need to have a twin scroll to run a twin scroll. Look at joes (d16y8-z6) holset on his log that hes running mid 10's in on his civic.
-
yeah but what would the gains be if he did it correctly?
-
I would imagin faster spool time. But this dude is talking about running his twin on a log, so just slap it on.
-
I thought SPLOG stood for split pulse log...

I'm running a twin scroll on what's basically a cast log manifold. It works fine. Yeah, it would spool better if I had a 4:2 header for it, but this works good enough. If I had to redo it I would make a weld-ell 4:2 manifold for it.
-
but technically that SPLOG isnt even correct if it is supposed to be
1 and 3
2 and 4
right?
eh i dont think it really matters that much. its all pumping exhaust. hahah.
it would really only make a huge difference if when it hits a certain rpm a second scroll opened up like
that old thread was talking about on ohmt. where it had a flapper that would open a whole new port to the twin scroll

1342 is honda firing order isn't it?
Yep, at least the ones i work on.
-
no.
on a honda you pair 1+4 and 2+3 on divided housing setups.

^^^this

i was thinking this may be the actual way.
and i think most cars would be 1-4 and 2-3
so i am corrected.
but i will have to research for a ka24de
-
ka is the same as a honda

very well. 1and4 it is.
that obviously takes much more tubing. which we dont have. hahah. and they would definitely be unequal runners.
-
equal length is not all that important.
just order up some bends there dirt cheap $5/e

Like said b4, unequal length is not a huge deal. I would take setting up the runners for a split over equal length any day.
-
tell me you're using an EVO turbo and not a CT26! CT26=doorstop.

maybe that'll have to be done.
