Title: need a DSMlink basemap to play around with
Post by: 98vtec on August 27, 2009, 07:52:23 PM
so i have a GST being towed to the shop on Monday for me to poke around on his DSMlink tune but i would like to look around at the software prior to doing so.  I downloaded the software and im really hoping it isnt like UTEC where you have to be connected to the ecu to be able to enter the software.  Does anyone happen to have a basemap i can use if i can look through it offline?

Dsmlink is too easy, no need for a basemap.  A monkey could tune it in his sleep.

It is junk though.  Thomas Dorris, the creator, is a fucking idiot who doesnt understand VE.  Link' is fucking piggyback junk. If the 4g63 wasnt chiseled from a solid chunk of granite, no car running link would hold together. Turboedit is more advanced than link.  Any of the versions.

I think JD is tuning a 1g running it right now.  Dont take my word for it.

i figured so.  A lot of these "managements" from non-honda's have been pretty pathetic so far.

dsm link isn't the greatest thing out there, but íve tuned a few cars on it and it works, street tuning 42lbs is fun :)

talk them into using dsmap.

DsMap is still around?? I found the forum for it pretty much abandoned like two years ago.

Its actually going very well,  they've done a version 2, that last i heard was finishing up with beta testing. Its been scaled for 2.5, 3, 3.5, and 5 bar maps.  If its not available for sale now it will be very soon.

I got the alpha/beta version about 6 months or so, car we tested it on was on 1000's and a 3bar, and ran beautifully, better than the car did when it was on the 450s with a maf.

Its all good, my head shop bitch is good friends with curtis(creater of dsmap), they used to play games and shit online.  Funny thing is that Curtis doesn't even have a dsm any more, hasnt for a few years.  Tell Jd i need to get him the updated version with 5 map support.

i highly doubt he is going to switch to another engine management since he already has a dedicated laptop for dsmlink which came with the car.  He is going to be calling me on Monday, i gotta find out some information about the setup.  I had a short talk with JD so i have some questions for the guy.

You'll catch on to DSMlink pretty fast.  Pretty much 1 adjustment slider in it will get the car running and driving. The gui is simple as well.

How about this, what the lastest greatest freeware for an evo7?

98-99 DSMs are flashable via a Tactrix cable.

There are writeups all over the internet about putting an Evo8 ECU in an earlier car, or a 1G DSM ECU in a later car.  All pretty easy.

ok he set an appointment to come in on thursday.  He doesnt really know anything about the car.

Its a T67 Turbonetics turbo
MAF (unknown if its stock or GM)
unknown injector size

I asked him to get me that information for when he comes on thursday.  I dont have to do anything serious with it.  No dyno tuning.  I just have to get it running/driving good as they are getting ready to sell it.

You got any good screen shots of the program JD?  I searched google images for some pictures but i didnt really come up with much other than the MAF/Fake MAF scroller window.

edit:  found the user manual

Is the program basically a glorified AFC or what?  All this scroll talk makes me feel like im going to be tuning something relative to an AFC.

It might as well be an afc. The slider columns make me laugh every time I think about it.
