Title: Interesting day at work. Time to move i guess. Houston?
Post by: rsmith2786 on August 28, 2009, 09:06:32 PM: Got into work this morning and had a mandatory meeting at 11:30 with my manager. Similar thing happened a couple weeks ago and a third of the company was let go. I didn't have high hopes. 11:30 rolls around. Seems to take forever. Sit down and my boss asks "Hey, you like Wisconsin." I thought he might be wondering if I was serious about staying at the location since a lot of people were moving away. I reply "heck yeah, i love this place." I really do enjoy living here. Then he replies, "Oh, well you have until January to move to Houstion with all of the other edisons (the leadership program i'm in.)

Cliffs: Being forced to move to Houston.

Anyone from the area? The biggest city i've lived in is 200k. This is going to be a change. I just bought a BMW 330xi too. Had I known I was moving to a place without snow I certainly wouldn't have gone with AWD. I hasn't really sunk in yet. Needless to say my gf isn't happy. She wants to try long distance. Not likely.

Post by: rsmith2786 on August 29, 2009, 11:10:17 AM: I don't really have a choice. With the economy engineering jobs are getting hard to find. Especially when your specialty is turbomachinery in the Oil & Gas field. I have a couple other options but it would be a pretty significant pay cut.
