He runs a few other sites. I agree though he needs to get his nig nog ass on here more!

Its called pride. Its worth more than any money.

Very view of us in life will die not being sell outs.

Not being rude but you just sell stuff which is fine but if you actually helped create something and it was ripped away from you from some SELL OUTS you wouldnt be to fond of it

Would you like me taking a dump in front of your shop

I've been developing products for vehicles for 6 years. Over 90% of what I've developed has been copied and reproduced. I'm well aware of the feeling. However, in this instance, as RHMT is in fact better than the last odd era of HMT under various rule, I would suggest that rick did us a favor in this regard.

Now, since this a business discussing his business renewal, which could impact his sales for his business, I would argue that this has everything to do with money and little to do with anything else.

Its called pride. Its worth more than any money.

Well I was a sponsor on the old site for 4 years so your point again is pointed in your personal thoughts not one of all business owners. I declined to be a part of the site day one once everything occurred. I have learned alot from this community and will not stab someone in the back for a couple bucks.

I knew what was going on would make the old site a failure and within a year that site will basically have no volume and just old archives making being a sponsor worthless. You would be lucky to make  1-2 sales a month there now.

I design all my own parts I sell and have 2 more in production I have created.I may be a low rent white trash in the view of most but I do have ideas and pride. The first Billet Honda throttle body was created by my good friend/mentor and was sent to China and produced with low grade materials and subpar machining. This caused our good friend at rpm to fold. We perfected that part after years of development testing including the worlds first dual throttle body setup for the honda h22 using 2 76mm Billet throttle bodies. That setup allowed us to go to 4 straight finals in the honda all motor street class. So yes things get stolen but Im not supporting people who steal ruin a community.

I would never want to be part of a rat bastards plans that Mr. Rick P is about. There are 5 years of archives of information there that not one user can understand since the whole user base is here.

Chris,

I know who you are, and I don't consider you or your business in the white trash/etc category. All business have to start from somewhere regardless of how humble. There are few people who understand what is really takes to go from concept to design to completion, then to have the profit pulled out of it from your competition underhandedly copying your work when you are truly relying on it -- damn well needing it to pay off.

I'm just pointing out that while HMT may be a dying board - and that is rick's fault for sure, his other boards have advertising value and produce a steady stream of income that should be considered into his advertising budget before he complete disregards the opportunity.

If you need a web based forum - or three - to sell enough low markup parts to pay the bills them your business' premise is a crock of shit.  I know you know this, you've stated in the past that your aftermarket performance oriented sales are the left overs from larger production runs.

The internet is in many ways a failure.  I've been an Internet Superstar and had my sack ridden, but it's the local guys and how they are treated that pay the bills.  It's hard to sell parts that break before the car is billed out, and buying from online sources many times leave you with zero warranty, really fuck e-businesses.  Their financial flow, directly proportional to their ability to stand behind their products, rises and falls by the bandwagon.  How does a company with great prices and THE BEST customer service like Tunertoys go under?  The bandwagon forgot about them.  The internet is largely a garbage business premise, and every day I wake up and am greatful my livlihood is not slaved to it.

I use forums mostly for link building, the sales are secondary. Advertise on 20-30 forums, you can generate as much as 50-100k in new links & back links per year. This play directly into your search engine position, which will ultimately get you more customers. And these can be huge differences - a couple years ago we only got 200-300 unique page views per day and less then 4-5 new paying (internet) customers per day. Now we get 3-4 times that # of unique page views, and as high as 25-30 **new** PAYING (internet) customers per day. When your average online cart is $160.00... That is a pretty significant difference for some basic SEO work on what was just a small portion of our business.

For us, the same profit margin that exists in a million a year in retail sale products is the equivalent of 3-4 million dollars a year in wholesale manufacturing. Production work is crap money - even when properly bid - I dream of the day I don't have to deal with some of our job-shop work customers. But to answer your question, yes, I need web based forums - just not for the same reasons that others would think... And whether or not the internet has burned you (and I know its burned many), there are still great opportunities out there and I hope you give it another shot at some point.

Side note: I hadn't heard that tuner toys went down. That is terrible. Stand up guy.

no $$$$ can put a price on the PRIDE I put into my work. I don't do what I do to get rich, but for what "little" I do, I get paid ok.

It has opened some doors.

Like a job interview with Rahal Racing in 2004, which I still have contacts. I had a "contact" this Thursday....something about ALMS and Rolex.

I am "simple white trash" and don't wanna get into the snobiness of the Pro teams. We'll see.

I think I have four customers cars competing at SCCA Solo Nats next week, I hope to get my first National Championship victory.

But unlike some others that Chris and me know, we still try to have some contact on the internet with common people.

Pride beats out $$$ every time.

Well, that makes a certain sense and comes from a perspective completely different from mine.  I can respect where you are coming from.

Yeah, not many guys warranty parts for you, either, after the bankruptcy paperwork's been signed.  He treated everyone like a family member.  I hope Craig at least pops in and out to keep us abreast of his personal projects and such.

Production work is crap money - even when properly bid - I dream of the day I don't have to deal with some of our job-shop work customers.

Whats your definition of crap money?

Production is where I make real money, custom jobs are the crap coin. I don't understand how you could be making less than $150-350/hr for quality production work unless your fixturing/methods needs major rework.

We can't bid production bending anywhere near those rates per hour for bending. We all compete with china/korea now for production work, and in a lot of cases that doesn't leave you with better then $100-150/hr for machine time for production/wholesale work. I work with one company is portland that does all truck parts, and they bid all of their machines out at $65/hr for production. Talk about slim margins when they are responsible for scrapping out 4" stainless tubing that is over $10/ft on a 8 foot part - and it happens! When we manufacture retail parts, the machines run at as high as $400-600/hr depending upon the size and material.

I have been considering starting a retail storefront for that reason, but I have just been hesitant as it is not something I really want to manage.

I know most of the shops I work with put their machines out for $65-120/hr, when working with primarily stainless material this just isn't enough. How I manage to be competitive and make more money is by coming up with very streamlined and efficient fixturing, if I can make the same part, with better quality, 2-3 times faster, I am laughing. And it really hasn't been to overly hard, most fabricators/weldors don't have any cnc machining experience and production fixturing experience.
