What would cause this: accord has an h22, chipped p06. Runs fine, vtec engages properly all that jazz. However if you hit past 6500 in 3rd gear it throws a cel and goes dead. Shut it off, turn it back on, and its fine. Only does this in 3rd. Every other gear you can wind out to 8500+ with no issues. Whats the deal? Gonna try a different chip/ecu hopefully to sort this shit out.

No shit, sherlock. Why's it only do it in third? whats the deal? is what im trying to figure out...
-
What's the code.

Hey Jose have you ever tuned a 02 auto prelude? Ive got a guy wanting me to tune one I told hime he would need an obd1 conversion and ecu but im not sure if it works right with an auto trans it's a manual with the autostick.
-
So what was it?

Never tuned any preludes, but plenty of auto accords. They're weird. Sometimes they work like every other car, despite using an auto or 5spd ecu. But sometimes they will have shifting problems, which the only way I've seen around that is by using a tuner harness and leaving it installed. It's an extra price they sometimes have to pay for being auto.

If there's an external TCU, then it *should* work.
Danno, selnd me your DSM BOV and I'll tell you the answer.

All accord/preludes have external tcu's(obd1/2). Out of the 7 autos I've tuned, 3 of them needed that tuner harness installed to work properly. The only reason I even figured it out was because I used my tuner harness to tune the car, then I removed it when finished and the car wouldn't shift properly. Put the harness back on and it worked fine.
I'm assuming that there are certain wires that need some extra resistance for some reason. I don't care, nor want to figure which wires those are.
260whp AND wtq out of an auto, non vtec dohc f22b with a 150 shot is fucking fun. Been running for a year with just an external trans oil cooler. I think it's finally starting to slip though.

Veddy Innarresting, Joser.
I wish Honda autos were stronger, alas.
-
It's my cousins ride and I asked him if he knew it and he said no, texted him last night to tell me the code and haven't heard back from him since :?: so I guess I'll have to wait to answer that until he decides to answer
-
Don't understand the only in 3rd gear but I assumed I put the wrong high side switch in when I added vtec. But it was the last one I had.
-
Well put, my auto f22 trans was a slippin' nightmare in the mornings.
-
I a slightly OT note, I did the wiring on an F20B auto swap into a 98 Accord, kept everything OBD2B. It was wierd feeling VTEC hit through an automatic transmission.
-
why?
-
Why? Have you ever felt VTEC hit at 5000 rpms through a converter?
-
i used to own an automatic 98 prelude so yea. It was like nitrous engaging...untuned. Once it was tuned with the super duty high tech AFC controller, all the mamma kick yo daddy in the mouth sauce went away :'(
-
Hey, do those things have a sport mode paddle shifter? I'm thinking this F20B Accord I wired needs one for best effect.
-
yea, tiptronic bullshit that cant handle any power.

Old man hickman did an auto b16a swap into a 92 hatch like 10 years ago. The kid he did for had some muscle disease and looked really ill. Made vtechhh.
He had somebody modify the stock torque converter too cat remember the name now

I had a local guy build a converter for the D16A1 swapped 86 Civic DX Gene and I did a decade ago. The guy had a pile of stock parts and had to order a stator so we got to pick the stall from a bunch of different factory specs - we went for the "big" 1400 rpm one, told the guy it was for a racecar to see his reaction.
Those were the days.
