Title: RHMT boost controlers.... lets see them!
Post by: turbohf on September 06, 2009, 03:35:56 PM
doing some research on a boost controller for my new setup, and have realized that im fuckin cheap (ok, i knew that to begin with) and dont feel like buying a baller boost controller...

i thought i remember there being a couple writeups on some dual stage setups, but i bet they are on the other site...  :-\

SO, lets fill this thread with some controller info!!! (try to keep the crap to a min please?)

lets call this the RHMT boost controller [aka "Home Depot MBC"] (http://www.geocities.com/chmwatson/FAQs/mbc.html)

baller'ish dual stage (http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=2806042)

soleniod to start a controller? (http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/wwg/itemDetailsRender.shtml?xi=xi&ItemId=1612667260) found it on another search. looks to be the same as the VW one above, along with the one used in a AVCR/AEM/etc baller controller... sure it can be used to replace those, maybe to be used for eCtune...

I came up with this, but never tried it. I'm pretty sure it would work well though.

It's the same as the "VW" one which is the same as the Perrin one for Subarus which is the same as: http://airinc.thomasnet.com/viewitems/air-valves/humphrey-direct-acting-310-410-series?&forward=1 (http://airinc.thomasnet.com/viewitems/air-valves/humphrey-direct-acting-310-410-series?&forward=1)

Cycle at 20-25Hz.  Your welcome.

I leaked that site to three people.  Which of them do I have to kneecap?  The Canadian?

none

i searched Grainger looking for a valve of that sort, then googled the part number to find the original manufacturer. then googled the latter part number to find a cheap source. where i ended up is the Air INC website

its been in my bookmarks for almost a year

I used a "home depot" style boost controler on both my cars. One holds rock solid 18psi and the other holds rock solid 15psi with a 16g small and a standard unported down pipe. I highly rate these unless you want differant boost to differant gears.

i bought one to do exactly that...but the inlet/outlet ports are a different size, as well as even when its backed all the way off there is still a shit-ton of resistance through the thing. i doubt it would work worth a shit

I use the ectune EBC, but as a side project I made a "manual EBC". Basicly just any solenoid (MAC, honda evap, misc brands, etc), and a PWM circuit that pulses the solenoid just like a regular EBC. Except you control boost via potentiometer knob put anywhere in your interior. The only problem is I fried the circuit using it for my injector cleaner/pulser...

I also have tried a variant on that home depot style so you don't need wrenches. Where the bolt goes in, you use a compression fitting, o-ring, and lock tite. You then use a bolt w/o threads near the head, and seals at the o-ring. Then you can turn it by hand rather than with 2 wrenches.

Real men dont run boost controllers.  They limit the boost with the size of the turbo.

This is a proven method of setting FTOD at the local auto-x.
