Title: Ford diesel people look inside
Post by: onlyflash944 on September 06, 2009, 10:28:12 PM
what the fuck turbo is on a 1994 Ford 7.3L IDI turbo diesel?  There's one local to me and the guy wants pennies for it and I can't find shit on what turbo the truck uses on the internet.  all kinds of shit out there for a powerstroke but not the IDI.  I do know it is a garrett but thats about it.  Comp wheel has been eaten by the housing so it needs a new one asap, or possibly the HX-35 I didn't put on my honduh?

correct, non powerstroke, its the InDirect Injection.  it is internally gated, but i can't find a model number anywhere on the interwebs

I think its  probably a rayjay turbo. I know the earlier ford diesels used them but I Dont know about the mid 90's ones.

Should be a pedestal mount GTP38 in the later 90s.  That era, fuck if I know.

this is the ford installed turbo kit the came on some early idi's and ALL 94 idi's. looks as if it uses a stanard t3 inlet. and uses uppipes to connect to the cross over pipe.

looks usable to me.

everything i've sen about pedestal mounted turbos is the powerstroke.

if it's garrett it says so on the comp housing.  i haven't seen anything else for that year in my junkyard scroungings

turbob16hatch,
everything in the ats link you just posted referrs to the 7.3 powerstroke.  i found that page a week ago

how do you know that ats used that same powerstroke kit on the IDI's?

Might be some info:

Quote
FYI for anyone curious (and I looked all over for this info): The stock turbo is a T3/T04B hybrid. That is, it has an H-trim T04B wheel in a .70 AR compressor housing, and a Stage III T3 turbine wheel in a .82 wastegated housing.

upon further review, it does say 6.9 and 7.3.  they never made a 6.9 powerstroke

got the turbo off and to the local diesel shop so they can order parts.  from everyone i've talked to, it's an oddball t3/t4.  both wheels are junk, there is no factory upgrades available for this turbo.  talked to ats, their parts for the idi are discontinued.  they got them from ford, ford decided to no make them anymore so i'm having to put stock everything back on.  that really sucks if you knew how restrictive the exhaust and dp is on that thing.  just going to up the boost, up the db2, and add a pyro gauge.  i'll post the exact numbers later off the turbo
