I've got an HP dv9500 laptop with a nvidia GeForce 8M graphics card...this morning I woke up and my screen was all picasso-like and when I clicked on something I got a blue screen error...now my computer is stuck on 640 X 480 with 4 bit color. Any time I try to change it, it just stays no matter how many fucking times I hit apply it stays at 4 bit. I've already tried to download and install the newest driver and still no luck...am I fucked? Can these graphics cards be switched out? Am I even on the right path?
-
Fuck you, go play mario bro.
-
try uninstalling the driver first, my wireless lan does some shit where it will go off and not come back till I uninstall the device, then reinstall it
If not, lincoln's idea works...
-
actually, i found it...common problem on these...the graphics "chip" runs hotter than it should...average life span of these fuckers are 1.5-2 years before this happens...the trick is to shut it down...pull the battery for a while...fire it back up and start backing up your shit like fucking crazy....some people get a day...some people get a month. The whole motherboard has to be replaced at a cost of 400-600. :(

You whine almost as much as that fat Joel kid.

Don't ever bring us your consumer grade laptop problems, next time buy a real laptop.

Fuck you, you old bald bastard. But yea..Joel pretty much sucks more than anyone, even me at my whiniest moments.

For what I spent on this fucker 2 years ago you'd think the god damned thing gave me a blowjob every time I turned it on. It was supposed to be a damn good computer. And now I'm throwing everything I can think of onto an external drive before the screen goes to shit again I and take it out in the driveway and introduce it to a baseball bat.

There is nothing to fix on the rice rocket...the key word is finish..which I haven't even touched the thing in over a year. I was actually thinking about swapping the engine/trans into my del sol once I get a new DD and just scrapping the shell and being done with the fucking thing.

and on a random note this happened today:

(not my pic)
my wife called me in a panic because she saw a tornado out the windows of her work that looked like it was near our house...there were 3 funnel clouds in the area and the one that actually touched down was in a field less than a half mile from my house...I was on the couch sleeping through the whole thing. :)
-
Move to the mountains. /tornado

You can't hide in your mountains...

Perfect time for an insurance claim on your laptop...
There were a shitton of nvidia chipsets that would overheat and go to shit.
Quit leaving your laptop on all the time.
-
on a serious note, yank the motherboard, and pop it into the oven for 10 minutes at 200 degree. this will redo all the solder points.
works fabulously on busted video cards as well.
no seriously, do it. im not joking at all.

What he said it works but typically only buys you an extra week or two
