ok, friend has a vw beetle. during the day the brake lights work fine, but when you turn on the lights(dash lights really since the headlights are always on) when you brake the right brake light no longer works. wtf is causing this shit?

vw

So the right brake light works when you aren't pressing the brake pedal?
-
check fuses
-
take it to vw, they usually fix their faulty shit like that for free.

ok the beetles headlights are always on. the brake lights work fine during the day, but when you "turn" on the headlights at night(basically lights up the dash) the right brake light doesnt light up anymore.
-
you change the bulb? check the grounds
-
the obvious answer is to wire in a relay for the right brakelight to be triggered by the left side
-
does the right light work 100% when the headlights are in DRL mode?
yes, and the bulb has been changed

also, vw had a recall on all their brake light switches. take it in if he hasn't already, and if he has, he probably fucked up the wiring pulling the old light out. it's a bitch.
