Title: Scrutinize my build dammit
Post by: Panis on September 21, 2009, 04:07:35 AM
Goal: 300hp

d16z6 vitara 75mm TT build.

No I haven't clearanced anything yet.  That is still to come but I want expert opinions before I amass other misc shit.

What I have so far.
Ycp pistons
Hastings rings
acl main, rod and king thrust washers.

Now the questions...

1- ARP headstuds necessary, can I reuuse my stockers? Read mixed opinions on this.

2- do I HAVE to have 650cc inj to make this power safely? I used the bsfc formula and came up with that being the ideal inj size.

3- xeno pump good or no? Getting mixed reviews on that too.

I'm trying to do this build for cheap, I know a guy that claims to make 350hp on dsm 450's but it just doesn't compute... Any tips are greatly appreciated. If I think of other shit I'll post up.

Oh yea

4- ideal ring gap for 1st and 2nd and oil ring for this application?

Don't think of it as spoon feeding, more like adding content to rHMT

Ungodly amount of fuel pressure can make injectors go a long way

You've got my attention... I'm going to be spending $500 for the chip and tune anyways ... think the xeno pump could handle those pressures say I went with the xeno pump and his 440cc injs, would it be feasible to churn out as close as possible to 300hp "safely" ?

No he is saying if you get the xeno pump you'll be pissed that you overpaid for a CDM pump.
Ebay has them for $65usd shipped:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220479564776&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220479564776&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT)

I use stock ring gap but on the loose side.

Headstuds = yes

650cc  =yes    I use 780cc

And doing this build cheap is what rHMT is all about.

from my experiences, that xeno pump is a huge pile of shit.

my thought on the injectors, its better to have and not need than to need and not have.

Ok for the pump, i would just spend the extra 35and get the hp walbro. Ive heard of alot of people (1 of them i know personaly) have a problem with them not sucking from the bottom of the tank. So you always have to have a 1/2 tank of it will spit and sputter. For injectors i would look around for a used set of 550cc+ sized injectors. I would shoot for 650 or larger but 550s will get you right on the line of your power. As for head studs, check extreampsi.com they have them for $100ish if it was my car, yes i would get them. Most people run to much timing and blow out hg's. If your head bolts are torque to yeald style (they have the funky drillbit look to them) then no, throw them in the trash and get new bolts, or studs. If they look like a regular bolt, fuck it, use them i reused mine like 3 times before i said fuck it and went with studs.

I bought a 'walbro' off of ebay who knows if it was chinese (lowest price shipped).  It was supposed to be for my car but if I would have connected it up with the supplied parts it would have run dry way early.  You need to use your noggin and compare the pickup placement of the new pump to the old one you are pulling out.  I had to do some ghetto modifying to get mine to have the same pickup placement but now my low fuel light still works.

OR I'm talking out my ass and the chinese pumps are so shitty they suck fuel from the bottom seam instead of the bottom nipple from leaks and thus will run dry at the bottom of the pump reguardless of pickup placement.  But if the assembly is that shitty I doubt it would seal on the pressure end either.

I didn't need to file the rings on my vitara build.  The numbers .022"-.024" stand out in my head.  I used the hastings rings supplied by fjt...

You will want looser than stock ring gaps.  More power=more thermal load=more expansion...

xeno sold hmt to corporate company that uses your personal info for spam. All admin/staff/contributers to the site were banned so the agenda of the corporate company to continue to achieve personal information is continued

You do know your on rhmt. If you would like spam sent to you and your email/passwords sold to africa then please go back to hmt and join the fools.

This is the last of the greats. Follow the herd of blind and weak and leave us at peace.

Only the cars running 10's/11's run that set up

Im going to see what I can get out of a d16z6 with a stock valve job to try to offer a budget ported sohc vtec head.
Title: Re: Scrutinize my build dammit
Post by: d112crzy on September 22, 2009, 10:44:42 PM
I wouldn't do a stock vj. I'd go for a steeper top angle to aid in the higher RPM, which would compliment your IM/TB setup well.

i always thought a 300-350whp ef was good for high 11's?

The whole point is to offer a budget style head. No one wants to pay top dollar for stuff anymore. The dohc vtec heads make pretty good numbers with stock vj's. Its a back burner idea since performance sales these days wont cover most peoples energy bills.

They are but to many people are hung up on trying to make big #'s on the d series with stock parts.
