I quit my job. I have money in the bank and Johnny fronting the rest of the bill, so I'm really thinking about a road trip. First step is get a car worthy. I'm leaning towards a Subaru Outback. As far as cars go, they typically don't suck, they are AWD, get fairly decent fuel economy, and I should be able to sleep in one.
Talk homos.

a lada for your commie ass?
the fact that members of my generation think its perfectly acceptable to shrug off all responsibilities to run around willy nilly just kills me. I could not imagine being 20 and not having a job, let alone being at a dead point in my life so that i could just leave for a month or whatever.
you have no school, job, drive or point right now? just hangin out? a vacation is cool and all, but if you arent working....you kinda are ON a vacation.....
Jesus im in a bad mood today. i just wanna smite fuckers today.
-
Dude, I quit. I'm not collecting. I just like to poke fun at you guys. I saved my money and now I choose to go off and go on a road trip. End of story. Don't preach to me about responsibility. Why did I put all this money in the bank if not to spend it?

The NA Subarus are great vehicles, you can rack up a lot of reliable miles on them. Just check the fluid level/quality in each part of the driveline as that shit gets neglected by most people, then prepare to have a good experience.

i had a friend who work at the subaru dealership in phx. he wanted a wrx so bad and would talk about it non-stop about it. but after a year of working there he changed his mind. after the pain in the ass of working on them and seeing what the dealership would not cover under warranty, even simple little shit. ended up making him sick to see it and ended up resigning. i used to like them too before every steroid pumping rich boy on earth got one and became the X transporting car of america
-
Subarus are almost as easy to work on as Honda's used to be pre-kseries. Gravy I said.

The NA cars are easy to work on, and you just described all dealerships. Maybe we should make the moral choice to only purchase bicycles?

my dealership seems to warranty everything under the sun... O2 sensor on a 97 Accord? thats covered... :?:

Early OBD2 Accords were not OBD2 compliant, they were forced to extend the warranty on tune up and emissions equipment to 15 years/150K.

Your friend sounds like he has never worked on cars before that. Even the turbo models are still easy as fuck. There's no way you couldnt make money working on scooby's unless your paraplegic... :?:

Whats your price range and requirements besides you what you listed?
-
Requirements:
25-30mpg
Wagon
AWD(preference)
Reliable(Most Important Part)
Reasonably Easy to Fix(something breaks, I'm not fucked in the middle of nowhere)
Decent Looking
Nice size fuel tank(350+mi range)
Price: $4-6k
I'd prefer to find something with low miles, but a bit older to keep the price down. That way when I drive it the miles I plan to put on it, it doesn't look out of place and kill resale value.

VW TDI wagon?
Did I not say reliable? I don't trust a company that can't figure out how to make a wiring harness.

I was just going on the half rule. As in used cars in the states are typically half the price they are here.

I have had many vw's leave me stranded, but never a vw diesel.

+1
I'd own one.

CRV
-
I hate CRVs. I hate all SUVs pretty much. They offer no utility. Their "trunk" is worthless and if you want to fold down the back seat, you still barely get any room. I find hatchback/wagons to be more efficient with their space. If I were going to get a "SUV", I'd get the gas guzzling Element. One of the best cars for utility ever. I'm just not looking to drop $8-10k for one.
-
Common rail TDI's are in-fucking-destructable. Ask me how I know. :P

25-30mpg
Thats the only one that may be a bitch. While people CLAIM to get 25-30, I don't believe them... But it does happen.

up here it's tough to find them under 10. things hold their fuckin value like spiker holds a cheeto.

I am looking at buying a subi wagon for my wife. Good info here.

I'd have to say you're planning on killing someone... why else would you be doing all this shit...
-
91-93 Accord wagon
Cheap, reliable, and even though its NOT 4wd they are still all jacked up.

No thanks. I'm not trusting the suspension parts on a 25+ year old car.

How did you know? :-*
-
You could pick up an accord wagon for less than 3k(much less if it has tons of miles), replace all bushings, buy a new suspension and fix any issues the motor may have and still be under your limit. Those things are pretty comfortable and have plenty of room to fucking pack shit.
I drove one for 5 hours and drove my accord across the country, twice.
You could also tune it to get 40mpg+.
-
Accord wagons are comfy, and you get minivan equivalent immunity from the cops. I had a friend who was pulled and ticketed in his lowered Lexus for going the speed limit and obeying all traffic laws. He went home raging and loaded all of us in his wife's minivan, we went back out on the main road in town and he found the same cop driving along, passed him in the center turn lane at 15 mph over the limit and the cop didn't even look twice. Anyway, to bring it back around to Accord wagons, I drove one for a month and had similar experiences. Cops don't even look at you.
