Title: Welcome Race Fans (and tranny breakers)
Post by: Stealthmode on September 26, 2009, 08:56:52 PM
Me and hatchbone went out on test and tune day.

Car is ready to go

Jake showed up with our limo.

(https://realhomemadeturbo.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg190.imageshack.us%2Fimg190%2F2084%2F96921043.jpg&hash=1f02c0d0f66a812ceaeb2bdc2d013c14f757a922)

(https://realhomemadeturbo.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg190.imageshack.us%2Fimg190%2F839%2F82660398.jpg&hash=f6a260cdf1bfffc2545edc26f8168f7f561b9f75)

Even the family showed up

(https://realhomemadeturbo.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg190.imageshack.us%2Fimg190%2F640%2F63891259.jpg&hash=569e3c418171c78deb2667eb0560a7c913145734)

Then after hatchbone made a great impression for the hotrod guys laying coolant down the whole track, we got some runs in. I got 3 in, one of them missing 3rd gear. The other two were both 13.0's @ 111mph. I had trouble from the start to about the top of 2nd. Everything felt good, but the times weren't there, with 60ft. in the 2.2 range. I've since discovered that my launch control is set at 5k, when it should be at 7k. More stuff to fix.

Speaking of things to fix, the track guy at the end told me someone at the start told him I was leaking something. I joked with him that maybe they just don't like honda guys (there was only 2 of us), but when I got back to the pits to check it I found this.

(https://realhomemadeturbo.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg85.imageshack.us%2Fimg85%2F3216%2F46134305.jpg&hash=424961f9074659e55273e31110f07613306cb198)

I guess something didn't like me in the transmission and decided to escape. Time for a new tranny.

It was still a good time watching hatchbone run like 20 times, working his way from 13.0's to 12.6 @117. At least we still had the motorcycles there.

(https://realhomemadeturbo.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg42.imageshack.us%2Fimg42%2F1548%2F72073145.jpg&hash=449928665fd5d16d548536114bff2c50b6375b13)

And here's the spoiled bitch that's gonna put me in the poor house by breaking everything.

(https://realhomemadeturbo.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg41.imageshack.us%2Fimg41%2F2016%2F82854202.jpg&hash=d24021fc81ed053505e9171945562927e235f9de)

We'll see. Gotta tear it out and find out what's useable. I also have a gsr tranny with questionable sincros, so I'm just trying to figure out what's going back in it so I can go racing again.

No, I didn't shut down the track. My friend did, and he was hated for a minute with the track/hotrod nigs.

When my tranny broke I had no idea. Drove fine and all. The guy at the end of the track spotted the leak, then I checked it out.

Well, they do have the monthly sport compact day full of 18 second buzzers, but being around real racers has a better environment/challenge aspect.

13" rims, yes.

But when near 500 whp cars run 13's, it's because the driver is gay.

You and Chubs (Matt) would make a great pair. Rob could be the backup quarterback :)

STEVE

You need some coaching on your driving.  Post full timeslips, and preferrably in-car video.

I don't have in car video.

LS/Vtacks
T3/T04E
402hp
25x8.7 MH
5k launch set  :'(

First run

r/t   .540
60   2.239
330  5.915
1/8   8.712
mph  89.69
1000  11.044
1/4   13.036
mph  111.88

Second run (missed 3rd bad and coasted)
r/t  .488
60  2.261
330  5.978

Third run

r/t  .560
60  2.253
330  5.954
1/8   8.724
mph  90.64
1000  11.023
1/4    13.043
mph   109.42

My first run being the best, but when I launched the tires grabbed and it bogged down. Knowing I couldn't change my launch right there I aired up the tires from 10psi (starting press.) to 12psi. My first run I also bounced off the limiter in 4th a couple times. My only other clean run (3rd) I decided to shift to 5th, which only took time and mph off the run.

I guess it has been about 6 or 7 years since running at the track. My consistency is good, but the times weren't there. I'm working on a gsr trans with lsd right now, and upping the launch to 7k. That should help the start as well as the limiter tapping at the finish.

what tranny are you maxing out 4th gear on 25" slicks with? do you only rev the car to 7000?

even a JDM ITR trans with 25" tires will do 116 at 8200.
Title: Re: Welcome Race Fans (and tranny breakers)

My limiter is set at 8200. It's a B16 tranny.

Looking at different calculators online has me thinking that real world and online calculators aren't always what they're cracked up to be. This calculator

http://www.fatboyraceworks.com/gears/index.php?MaxRPM=8200&TireDiameter=25.00&GearRatio1=3.23&GearRatio2=2.105&GearRatio3=1.458&GearRatio4=1.107&GearRatio5=0.848&GearRatio6=0&FinalDrive=4.4&TireWidth=195&TireAspect=55&RimDiameter=15&MaxRPM_2=8200&TireDiameter_2=25.00&GearRatio1_2=3.23&GearRatio2_2=2.105&GearRatio3_2=1.458&GearRatio4_2=1.107&GearRatio5_2=0.848&GearRatio6_2=0&FinalDrive_2=4.4&TireWidth_2=195&TireAspect_2=55&RimDiameter_2=15&Calculate=Calculate%2FGraph&Compare=1 (http://www.fatboyraceworks.com/gears/index.php?MaxRPM=8200&TireDiameter=25.00&GearRatio1=3.23&GearRatio2=2.105&GearRatio3=1.458&GearRatio4=1.107&GearRatio5=0.848&GearRatio6=0&FinalDrive=4.4&TireWidth=195&TireAspect=55&RimDiameter=15&MaxRPM_2=8200&TireDiameter_2=25.00&GearRatio1_2=3.23&GearRatio2_2=2.105&GearRatio3_2=1.458&GearRatio4_2=1.107&GearRatio5_2=0.848&GearRatio6_2=0&FinalDrive_2=4.4&TireWidth_2=195&TireAspect_2=55&RimDiameter_2=15&Calculate=Calculate%2FGraph&Compare=1)

claims that 4th gear on my setup ends at 125.26 MPH

Take into count tire diameter. The calculator should be pretty close if you were on stock street tires.

You missed the part of the calculator that said, "or XX.XX" tires", which is where I put 25.00

1300 ft/lbs and 4 monitors is always sweet.

Bog is bad, that's when shit breaks.

Take your goddamn laptop with you next time, change the FTL as needed because a huge change and then being unable to adjust from there isn't any way to run this show.

might look up the exact diameter of the tires at the manufacturer's website.  sometimes an advertised 25" really means 24.75 or 25.25.

doesnt matter, at the top end of the track a 25" slick is probably 26" tall due to growth.

i was trapping 116 on 23" slicks with a b16 trans and 8600 rpm.

I was under the impression we agreed on 7k, but it somewhere in the retuning process it was left or set at 5k.
