Title: Injector battery offset I think.
Post by: fuse on September 27, 2009, 11:05:45 PM
Ok I just did a simple street tune on a na d15 with a z6 head not much else. But I have seen this a time or 2 before on other tunes. I set everything up to where I want it at the end of the tune I have them all turn on there headlights and heater fan just to see if it make a big deferens at wot some time no some times yes.

Is the problem I need to do more tuning in the injector battery offset or is the voltage change wigging out my wide band or do thy have week charging system or weak batteries? The voltage change on the last one was 14.1 all off 13.9 all on using a volt meter.

I am no master at reading plugs by any means but thy look no different headlights on headlights off. I am starting to not trust my wide band (lm-2)

I always do the battery offsets at the beginning of the tune.   What software you tuning with??

crome free 1.5.0 so explain what you do? I am listening. I may just be doing it wrong.......

+1

Set idle AFRs with all load off, then turn on the high beams and the fan, everything you can.  You'll always have a small fluctuation when loading/unloading the system, but if you get the battery tables down it'll be fine.

FYI, the car "runs fine" under WOT because it's a very small amount of injector opening change at idle.

Correct.  You'll never get good answers in this forum.

lol ok I did try that too. But it seams to move to a different load but I get what you all are saying. I also have a pedal compressor with a fine tune screw and I tried to keep the engine load and rpm at the same then tune offset. This one http://www.acsource.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=686 (http://www.acsource.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=686) Just gathering info on what you all do.

But the main thing is do you all think the voltage change messes with my wide band output?  Should I worry about it?

And what tables do you all use? The stock or the advanced in the advanced tables? The advanced seams to not do anything or could I be doing that wrong too.

Other then this issue I am not shity with crome any more still working on becoming good.

You need to edit the "stock" one. I've never used the advanced one.

What is your wideband grounded to?

I am getting power and ground from the battery lm2 uses a cig socket. The wide band output is going into the ecu and the output ground is grounded to the same spot as the ecu.

Where do you hook up the multimeter to tell what voltage column to edit? actually pick up off the injector wiring or where? I have never done this and I think it would help out my 1000cc precisions idle better huh?

the output ground is grounded to the same spot as the ecu.

Which is?

ive never noticed a diffence in my lm-2 if you have access get to a cvs $8 they have a converter from the wall to cigarette plug plug the lm-2 up with that then tune the tables. but if your getting like a .2-.3 afr flux that fine it wont be perfect.

Which is?

I use the one on the thermostat housing? Is this correct? lol

That'll do, pig.  That'll do.

Ok did another tune I think I nail battery offset this time only a .2 afr change. I hade to change the stock table a lot to get it to work. The 13 volts box is normally .67 with 90 94 dsm I had to bump it to about 1.03 and then made the chart look smooth.

Do you all normally have to alter them this much? Loads off it was around 14.3 volts loads on this one dipped to 13.5 volts.

There are a thousand different injectors each with unique electrical characteristics.  You pretty much do whatever, between battery comp and offset, to get things stable.

where are you measuring this voltage? one side of the multimeter at the ecu ground at the thermostadt housing and the other end where?

Across the datalogging cable, as the ECU reads it.
