What deals are you finding, guys? One of my tuning friends is taking a hit in his wallet at the moment, and his laptop is dying. Post up any details, bonus points if the machine runs on XP, or can be upgraded to XP. He would prefer reputable machines with real warranties, he's coming from the HP camp and is sick of being screwed over.
Thanks!

Why not one of those $300 Acers from WalMart?

You talk to a dude in India who outright argues with you that your six month old laptop is outdated and they can make you a deal on a new one, after you upgrade through two supervisors they finally give you an RMA. The laptop is gone for three to nine weeks, and comes back with nothing fixed. Repeat this procedure 2-3 times until you realise your time is better spent starring in gay gangbang porn.

Check Gizmodo for the "Deal of the day" usually a few cheap laptops in the bunch
-
My buddy was running XP on one of those tiny ass EEE computers with an 8 gig hdd. He got it for like $150 but it worked more than decent enough, and had a retardedly long battery life.

Avoid Acer. Mine's held together pretty well but it overheats way too easily and the battery started having issues after only a year; I've heard much worse stories about 'em.
-
Believe it or not, Walmart did have a couple $300 full laptops with decent specs and screensize.
Forgot what brands and am too lazy to look, though.

Had mine for 3yrs now and I do have overheating issues.
But I just blow out the MB, fan, and vents every 3 month and less problems that way.
I have a Toshiba and it worked great for a yr.
I had it sent in to be fixed by Toshiba twice and it still isn't fixed.
Acer>Toshiba my experience

Get an Asus HDD-based Netbook from BreastBuy. Wife just got one.
-
I'd never tune on a Netbook.
Stop being lazy and browse slickdeals for a deal.

my acer aspire netbook as survived rightfully well.

-
Check out Newegg.com. I got my Toshiba there it was a $700 laptop got it on a halloween day sale for $450 shipped 1 year warenty. Runs my ECtune great!!!

I've had decent experience with dell. If you can, try to find last years model of a given machine, and it will be a lot cheaper. My Studio 17 was only like $550 with a $100 printer, because the store was selling out of 15's and the 17 is huge.
If screen size is not a concern, a cheap netbook like an acer will do pretty well. Once you get around $300 though, you might as well spring for a full laptop.

I dont think anyone here would be dumb enough to buy a dell. Trust me. I have like 800 of them and im ditching some for 450 new dells. out of like 60 I unbox i send back like 3-4 for warrenty before they see teh first 24 hour work day. Now the 60 HP's i got no issues what so ever, 9 months later.

I probably should also mention that the first thing I do with my computers is uninstall windows and put ubuntu in. But yeah, my sister has had her studio 15 for a year with no problems other than her buggering up windows vista (not hard to do), and my studio 17 has been running strong as well.
I know a lot of people have had bad luck with dell. All computer companies suck if you have to send them for warranty work. That's why I don't. I've always fixed my own PCs

Incorrect. Have warranty work performed on a Thinkpad sometime.

There's nothing wrong with Vista...I stayed away from it for months because of the Vista-hate bandwagon, eventually installed it, had it for months with no problems until I installed Win7...
With laptops you just need to install a fresh unmolested copy of Windows instead of the bloatware-infested shit the OEMs like to add, or remove all the garbage they add.
I've seen quite a few Dells/HPs that were a complete pain in the ass slow piece of shit to use until all the crap was removed.
I usually just format the drive and install a fresh copy to get it over with...Win7 or XP.

Hit the nail on the head.

Damn well i still hear and see far less failures with HP hardware and shit than i do Dell but its not hard to get better than a dell honestly.

Anything you can get in a Walmart is not something with American tech support. Low prices = paying Akhbar or Sanjay $10/hr.
Wrong
Xbox Live support, support for the phones they sell, and crapple support = USA
bwahahaha :mexi:
