The wastegate spring is supposed to be 7.2psi, but I never reached it. It stopped at 4.5psi flat and constant.
Today I wanted to know if the spring was wrong or if I had a bad leak somewhere so I removed the wastegate inlet tube. I did it fast cause the engine was hot and I forgot to put a bolt in the tube to stop the leak (tube goes from tubo nipple to wastegate).
I went to a test run and boost gauge indicated 8-9psi at 6k rpm. When I came back home, I noticed the leak from the wastegate tube so I put a bolt in the hole and the leak was fixed.
Went for another run looking carefully at the boost gauge to not reach too high boost since the wastegate was unhooked, but boost stayed at 8-9psi like before with the leak.
What can cause that? I mean, I had a leak and could see 8-9psi and without the leak its the same amount of boost. Both were starting at 3500rpm and finishing at 6000rpm.
Slipping clutch? Unknown leak in the intercooler piping?
Only thing I hope is that the gauge is correct and thats really 9psi and not 12psi. (7psi rated - 4psi observed = 3psi under)
Motor still in one piece tho... Only problem I saw is AFR at 13ish at 9psi.

Sounds like a leak to me. No vac to waste gates= 10000X psi

Can you verify boost pressure with a datalog? Or another gauge? With the car off, does your boost gauge show dead on zero? What elevation above sea level are you at, more or less?
-
Yeah, gauge indicate 0psi when the car is off. I need to solder my new USB to TTL adapter to see if dataloging works.
From another site: 57 meters or 187 feet above sea level.

Internal or external WG? Also, I would reference the WG to the charge pipes after the IC, but before the throttle body. I'm guessing your boost gauge is referenced to the intake manifold?
-
External WG. I soldered the USB to TTL and after 45min of divers install I get it to work.
Didnt work at first with Freelog, but at the second attempt, it worked. I didnt go very far cause there are traffic on the highway.
Tomorrow I'll hook up the WG to max it and see if the pressure are the same on the MAP and the gauge.
Btw, I almost died from carbon monoxide while I was datalogging at idle lol At least I knew why I was feeling bad and didnt stayed in the car. Why would it matter if the ref line was hooked up before TB or on the manifold? Inquiring minds...

Ching chong gate? work fine in another car?
most Chinese gates have springs that arent even close to the advertised rate. ive bought 2 that claimed to be 4.5psi and were in fact 1bar

Some WG's are not designed to see vacuum, so it can mess up the diaphragm in them.

Its a real Tial WG, but I don't know about the spring. I bought the spring on OHMT, the guy was claiming it was a 13psi spring (big green) but in fact it was a 7.25psi (small green)

Nah, the ref line is on the turbo. It came with the nipple on it so I used it.

I've been using my ching chong meow xs power wg for 2 years now hooked up to the manifold, no problems. Boost is always steady and consistent. CDM 4 life nig
-
Now I have 2 possible reasons.
1. The spring rate is shit (what I think)
2. Wategate is leaking
I used Logwork to datalog AFR and Boost when I unhook the wg hose and it stops at 1687mbar aka 9.7psi steady.
When I say steady, its a 2-3 secondes straight line at 9.7 psi.
Pulls like waaahh at 10psi ;D and AFR is 11.5-11.7.
Clutch start slipping after 3-4 pulls, when it is hot.
I let the wg hose unpluged. Its more fun and looks "safe" from what I can see. Boost cut is at 10psi anyway.

Good that your figuring shit out....... :noel:

Bump with a vid ;)
Integra 92 LS stock internal turbo at 10psi 0 to 190km/h (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LINC3zFPW68#normal)

Prove it mudafuka It's a free statement otherwise :P
-
shit my wrx is faster than that :?:
How? You own a stock turbo unstripped car.
-
shit my wrx is faster than that :?:
No, your gay WRX has shittier gears than that. Stock ZC on 10psi WALKED WRXs and STIs, ANY year. Fuck Subaru.
Oh, and my ching chong Tial knock off hits high 9, almost 10 psi. Not sure what the spring is SUPPOSED to be, but I automatically assumed 7. Then it hit 9. :)
