I bought this last fall ... instead of a speedboat, since its a little more family friendly.
Its a 1979 Toyota Dolphin motorhome. Originally built and sold in California. It was shipped to germany and used there for some period of time before returning the the US and eventually coming to Canada as part of some dead guys estate.
The guy I got it from bout it from an auction, used it once, and parked it. Then I bought it.
$1000, I think I did OK on it.
Its a 20R, 4spd manual. No dual wheels at the back. Thier solution was just to put some super wide ass tires on fat steelies and call it a day. I think the rears are 14x8.5 or somthing like that.
If it was fuel injectod I would consider boosting it, but for whats its worth, it seems like its got decent power. Since the exhaust is FUCKED, Il probably get a header and get the exhaust done front to back, at least then its a one shot deal and I sdont have to worry about it again.
Il probably throw a hitch on it for towing shit to the track or refore or whatever.
Heres some pics.

"now thats gangsta"

For the sake of awesome, you must boost this right away.

Straight pimp'n O0

I guess a blow thru setup on a Ford 1bbl Holley knock off would be easily workable ....... but its at the BOTTOM of the project list.
For low boost Im thinking I could just boost reference the mechanical pump, make a hat for the carb, and call it a day.

Couldn't have said it any better..
also it gave me an idea.....
You could be a ricer and get away with it because it would do the same thing to them as when a junkyard shitbox pulls up and smokes them.
Throw on some neons underneath, mismatched colors, mount a WingsWest directly onto the back of it (top of wing facing guy behind you)
APC stickers all over the place with a vtak inside intel sticker on the window.
lambo doors of course and a few apexi/ JDM/ SPOON/ Greddy and NOPI stickers if you can find them.
if you do all that and still hold off on the boost, cut the grill out from in front of the radiator and spray paint it chrome colored.
LAST BUT NOT LEAST: install a PA mic/loudspeaker in it with sound clips of chef from southpark saying "Hello Children"
and the seasame street theme music.
take it and run it on a 1/4 mile on a busy weekend
then to a car show.
the possibilites are endless.
I want one.

Fuckin pimp. You'll be raping homeless girls in no time.
-
Dont forget to put the glowing windshield wiper lights on.
-
Gangsta content is correct, sir.
I'd freshen up the chrome and keep it super clean, someone will offer you stupid money for it at an RV park.
-
has a similar look to an old chevy luv pickup. i like it

Thats the plan ... Im going to pull all the chrome and ploish it. Touch up the rust and repaint the whole truck. A friend of mine has an old set of E30 BMW Projector headlights that will bolt in in place of the original sealed beams.
Im thinking about ordering some flake and re doing the stripes the same colour they already are but in metal flake. Base colour will be generic RV White (since thats the colour it is already).
My wife is pretty good with sewing and whatnot, so it'l be re upholstered as well. I was thinking about ordering the reproduction VW Westy plaid stuff. I think it would suit the truck and look right for the age and style.
Ive got some 3" maple hardwood floor I was thinking of using in place of the original lino.... but I dont know if there would be any potential issues with it.
If I caould make a grip on it that way, Id sell it for sure.
***EDIT***
Oh yeah ... all those little logos on the front grille are from german "caravan clubs" ...

Considering I was offered $2000 AS IT IS NOW, Im not too worried about getting paid for it when Im done (so long as I look after it).
Yeah, someone get creative with a rattle can just under the front bumper and obviously the black on the door bottoms. I kinda wish they had left it alone, but its not a big deal.
It should clean up good none the less. Its just a matter of taking the time to do it.
The whole thing could use some fresh paint really... and some POR15. Theres also a ding in the ... uh .... siding?, just befind the rear wheel on the driver side and its missing the original mirror on the driver side. Theres a few RV scrap yards out this way, so Im going to go have a look and see if I cant find some replacment siding off an old one.

As much as Id love to, Il probably just keep is simple and reliable. The 20R is pretty rugged, and it works. We'l have to see how well it does towing a car.
