Title: Oil burning 97 DX. nsfw
Post by: notfastcrx on October 15, 2009, 12:50:11 AM
here's the deal; I bought a bone stock 97 DX a few months ago. 167k on the odometer as of today. it burns oil like a mother fucker (4 quarts in less than 1000 miles)
I'm hoping the rings are decent and its a leaky valve seal(s).

so my question is... do most of the d15/d16 heads fit on the d15 block? or do any of you jigs have any spare cylinder heads laying around that will help my cause. im willing to spend a couple hundred on it to get it so i'm not going through 4 quarts of oil every month.

while ur figuring out an answer to my dilema, here's some nsfw sheet.

welcome to the failure of the y series motor. I promise the mains are all ready to eat shit and you have major scoring in the cylinder walls. Rod knock should be coming anytime.

Go find a used obd1 block and throw it in.

Steve knows what he's talking about, he sees it a lot on those Subarus he loves so much.

Is the body really that straight, and where are you?  Some cash and some good parts in trade, we can walk away happy.  Those cars are nice to daily drive if you ditch the D16Y failure.

Rust is always 10x worse then you think. But if its just surface rust from paint chips thats a sweet car.

rust on the hood can be fixed by getting a new hood.  O0

Anyone concerned with engine longevity in a stock-ish car that doesn't have blowby problems.

what am talking about, 2 of my cars still have the original pcv system but they are bone stock . but since  we on rhmt I ass u me that you would upraded your pcv system to a open system.
by the way you need to post some pics and video of the engine to give us an idea.

ill see if i can get a video of start up to show you the smoking. it pretty much only smokes till its warmed up. i'll have to check the oil also to see if its gone through any oil since i filled it.
