went to md to pick up a car with my cousin and stopped by our fav crab vendor from back when i lived in severn.. couldn't find em so went to some restaurant that sells em cooked or live and got 6 dozen for 120 bucks not bad..

pretty arguable point regarding the best way to kill them.. my mom used to freeze them overnight to kill them.. but i found this method online a while back..
insert knife where the back fin ends.. and push in and up..

and up.. its instant death... faster than tossing into boiling water (ive seen em squirm in boiling water..) but with this method its instant death.. you can put your finger in between the claw the second you insert the knife and nothing.. crab doesn't move.. besides.. i don't find the idea of cooking crabs in there own shit and guts appealing..

bend it up and stick your thumb up the crabs ass (kidding) and use your other thumb to hold the bottom shell down..
use your thumbs only to do the pushing.. otherwise you'll break the crab.. the whole point is one thumb push up one thumb to just hold down or with the bigger crabs you have to push down with your other thumb..

you don't need to use a knife to do it.. you can just pull the gills/lungs right off with your hands..

i went crabbing once and we just piled ice on the crabs and they got all lethargic and we ripped their shit apart

Pull that yellow shit out too.
And its faster/easier to kill them by stabbing them through the tail ting in the rear/back of the crab, there is a soft/thin piece where the tail thing hinges on, stab through that, easier and you dont risk cutting some meat

WTF? this is not how you cook crabs damn yankees fuck it all up.
You boil it whole and when you pop teh shell off all that deadman and guts n shit comes out a whole lot easier. not to mention steamed/boiled will taste better than oven baked IMO.

ive never tasted baked crab.. wouldnt the crab meat shrink up a bit from baking it ?

the guts dont make any difference if you cook them in lol. I grew up in Hampton Roads VA where your crabs are from, also spent a lot of time on the outer banks as well. I can tell you first hand No one, i mean no one who lives near water or has anything to do with seafood cooks crabs that way. It may be good i mean there are a thousand different ways to skin a cat, jsut ask scott.
All im sayin is i've never seen anyone cook crabs like that and seafood is a staple where im from.
