I am about to send in an oil sample to be analyzed and i was wondering what you guys thoughts are from what you received and if you were able to obtain a good understanding of how well the engine was operating and maybe determine how you could really go for oil changing intervals.
basically, what all did you learn from the analysis results? If you can, post up your sheet and what kind of oil you were using.

the cement plant i worked at had a national contract with exxonmobil. while i was there, i was over all the lubrication in the plant. we sent out about 20 oil samples a week. its all the same stuff, just different companies. you really want to learn something, spend some time reading here

i used to have some really useful information that the EM rep gave me, but then my HD crashed and i lost it all. Anyway, you should do some more searching, theres a ton of info out there regarding how to read an oil sample.

you get a free kit they send to you to get the sample and you send the sample to them along with 20 dollars and they send it back to you. Thats it.

I have not done this. I think the only way taking samples will give you useful info. is if you do it every oil change. Say between changes 5 and 6 the copper content goes up and the lead content goes down. You obviously hammered your bearings some. Did you ping a bit during the last 3000 or did you suck some air while you were rock crawling? Will it save your crank? Yes. Will a drop in oil pressure tell you the same thing? Yes... Will a set of det cans after filling your tank tell you the same a few months earlier? Yes.
I do not think knowing the viscosity of 10w30 after 3000 miles will make you any faster. Will you get your $20 back from extending the intervals between changes? Doubt it...
I'm sure they'll give you a fancy sheet with charts n graphs to impress your friends. Post it up... For now I'll spend my $20 on a bj and a pbr...

It's worth it if it's a $$$$ build. Me, I'll configure an ignition kill based on oil pressure vs rpm/load and not worry about it.

The ectune guy from denmark(allan) send all his oil to blackstone. Hes sent me a copy of the report, alot of good info is given. I'm going to send a few samples in when i finally get one of my cars up and running.
