here's the deal; I cannot come up with el cheapo way to transport an EF shell 200 miles up the coast back to my place without spending well over $200.
the problem is I don't have any towing equipment for the van I have, and a tow hitch set is $130, then $80 to rent a car dolly, etc.
a towing company is out of the picture due to the ridiculous rates since gas went up so high.
car rental companies restrict any towing with their vehicles, so getting a truck with a hitch is impossible.
I even thought about road side assistance with my insurance company, but they only tow to get repairs at a nearby shop.
Any ideas? I know it's a long shot, but you guys have delivered some great ideas more than once.

What type of van? Full size? Gut the entire van excpet for a Driver seat and toss like a matress in the bottom. then load up shell on its side in the van and drive very carefully so you know you dont die n stuff.
if it doesnt fit in the van try a Uhaul. take some hand tools so you can drop the suspensions right fast to lighten the shell, that way you and a friend or two and flip it all around.
-
if the shell is rolling and has decent tires, i use a towbar. i got mine for $50 from HF and is awesome. you have to have a hitch though

A shell would not fit in a full size van. It would fit on its side in a uhaul box truck though.

lolol Sounds like you have experience there lol.

couldnt you weld a cheap hitch with some spare metal laying around? then buy or borrow a towbar/cartrailer? i mean if we were going for cheap and it wasnt to nice of a van thats the route i would look into. the more stuff you can borrow or buy off friends or local people the cheaper it will be then going out and buying it new.

i was expecting him to ask to borrow the tow bar since he lives about 15min from me. lol

Get a rent a truck from homedpot. I think its like 30 bucks for all day. Then a uhaul dolly.
-
You can hire this guy
It might take him all day, but he'll do it for a bucket of chicken, and a sixpack of grape soda

throw in a pack of newports and he will hook you up with his brother. hes a prince and need help Xfering monies out of his country.....

you could prbably rent a stake bed truck, remove the railings, use a couple of 2x4's or 2x8's and use it as a ramp to load that bitch on the back if it rolls. cinderblocks, and a tall jack would be usefull
That would probably be cheaper, than towing it? depends on where you find the truck, hole in the wall tool, and truck rental places have cheaper rates.
-
EF should EASILY fit in the back of a u-haul cube van
Maybe unhook speedo cable (or vss) to save on milage?
-
I have seen crx shells placed in the back of an f-250.... 4 guys and an 8-foot bed....
-
Me and 90dx transported one to the dump one time in 4 pieces in the back of my pickup :-\
-
I fit a prelude in my s-10 in about 5 trips
-
u try uhaul??
-
uhual is pretty cheap

So you want a magical way to move a car? Find a friend with a truck and a trailer. If you dont have those then what did you think was another option besides renting equipment to move a car. Also you keep rambling about money and lack there of. Why are you buying a chassis then? Also according to you you have to have no debt to get into the military. Buying this seems like a debt collector
If you dont have a friend with a truck you have a lack of actual friends who are worth a damn. Any working man should have a truck, nothing fancy but a 1500 dollar pickup makes life alot easier.

not to mention towing another car any other way but the right way is dangerous to other people on the road.
-
corey noone gives a fuck about safety. its just got to be on the cheap
-
Yes fuck other people after your rigged way ends up wrecking cars to save 50 bucks
Towing cars is not a fuckin thing to start rigging up stuff anyone who actually tows knows this. Its hard enough dealing with traffic with an extra 4000 pounds on your ass and blind spots like a mofo.
I will grind metal all day without safety glasses but try to catch me rigging up some bullshit to tow a car, its never going to happen. Its dangerous and just stupid.

Tow Rope FTMFW
-
Bungee cords

household electrical wire

yeah cause a ef shell weighs about 4000 pounds :?:
no, but with a trailer it's close. white people do things the right way, i wouldn't expect you to understand.

towing a car on a trailer is the right way to do it.
how about you tell me how much it weighs if you do it the wrong way.
which is what we are talking about here, towing something the wrong way.
towing a ef shell with a towbar (wrong way?) only adds 20 lbs to the weight of the car. so we are looking at a 700 lb shell.
ef shells only weigh 700lbs?
sign me up for a 1000lb ef with motor. ill be the only person in the universe with a 1K lb civic.

fuck other people, but there are a few "right ways" to tow a car
ok, fuck other people. im sure youd be saying that when some asshole is towing a car improperly and it loses control, car veers into your lane head on and kills your kid in the back seat.
fucking retard.
-
I smell a back pedaling...
-
you fail on so many levels im dumbfounded.
-
I towed a caprice that only had 3 wheels on a two wheel dolly. I didn't used to give a shit about myself or others though. I spent the scrap yard money on some good drugs though

A tow dolly would work perfectly fine.

Last time I saw 2 guys pulling a car (with rope), it snapped and the puller kept driving. Hilarious.
Call around to see if any tow company is hurting, or has a "job" in that area. If they have to take something near, they wont' charge much if they make money on the return trip.
