ITT: people that have no idea what coyotes do to a farm
for reals, they will fucking kill chickens, cats, turkey, fish- tear up gardens ect. there is a reason there is no hunting license for them in many places.

I'm fine with wolves. They learned centuries ago that humans aren't food (the last time a pack raided Paris was in the early 1500's, so they even learned to respect the French). Awesome animals, really.
Coyotes would have no problem baiting a child away from safety to attack and kill it. Fuck those things.

I have both coyote and wolves living near me.
Coyote we can hunt.
Wolves we can not (yet).
Coyotes you just blast a coyote call on a p.a. system and they come running and you just sit in your truck shot them.
You may even get 20 or so in one night. ;D
Wolves you have to prove that they were attacking your livestock before you can shot them. :?:

same here along with prairie dogs, squirrels, raccoons, and fucking rabbits (they are every where).
Only thing is you can not shoot in town.
Some times the rabbits are great for batting practice b/c on the college campus you can walk up to them smack their heads off. ;D

I like you. We bought a pretty badass crossbow so we can deal with dangerous pests (bears) in our backyard now without the neighbours getting curious when they hear the defender or the .300 win mag.

Typically they are bad financially and will run it into the ground. If there is a hen house, they will raid it until there are no more eggs to sell. At this point, since the coyotes have no eggs to sell to buy coyote chow, they end up eating the chickens, which then leaves them with no eggs to eat.
Experience has shown that without chickens, the coyotes will start selling off the larger equipment first as it brings in the most money so they can spurge on coyote chow. Then since all the large equipment is gone, they have a harder and harder time bringing in any agrarian based crops.
Then the shit hits the fan.

Yeah I had a cool experiance with a whole pack of coyotes about ten years ago. I was in the woods at night it was full moon I'm just below the top of a small ridge right at the edge of some ceder trees the rest of the way down the hill it turned into hard wood and it was late fall with no leaves so youve got complete open visiblity the rest of the way down. At the bottom of the hill there's a dried up creek bed.
Anyway I hear these things about a mile away to the north and heading my way fast, After a few seconds I could hear rocks in the wash getting kicked around then I could see them, there was about thirty or more of them. I had few things going through my mind at that point. I didn't have a gun LOL I had a long bow with about six razor tipped arrows and sweet tomahawk. But don't kid yourselves a whole pack of coyotes would totally take down one person by themselves in the woods at night. It was pretty scary just because there were so many of them.
the wind was coming into my face so I knew they couldn't smell me so I just stayed still and let them pass on through.
Coyotes are rough on the environment they killed off all the rabbits that makes it harder on the redtailed hawks and the few bobcats that we have.
rabbits are just now making a full comeback. Coyotes are fucking smart to they used to get their dens found by their howling at dawn and dusk then they got hunted out really quickly but after a year or so they actually learned not to howl. To me thats amazing.
I have split feelings about them. I meen theyre wild animals and if they can survive somewhere I think they have the right to. But their such dirty bastards that they deserve what they get sometimes to. Just the body size they have really push's them to have to do things a wolf wouldn't have to they don't have the luxury of being honorable coyotes have to take what they can when they can. Theyre not big enough to take deer like wolves can so they go after peoples pets cats a small dogs.
And they will kill child or an adult for food if they get the right opportunity.

While I don't "like" certain creatures.... giant spiders in my bed, hagfish, lampreys, republicans, pitbulls, I is still respect them (well, except for republicans) for creatures that exist.
Coyotes are simply an animal that is FORCED to exist in our environment. If they are an actual menace, thats one thing. If they are simply existing and you choose to kill them for fun? Thats your issue, not mine.
And yes, I do hunt.

My cousin had an encounter of them, about 20-30 of them chasing down 4 people on horses, they had to do a full out sprint for 3km before they could outrun the things.
So they did what any redneck would do, call the neighbors and hunt them down. I dont remember if they got them or not. They said they had never seen coyotes run in packs like that.

I've not hunted them, but we've set their dens ablaze. Legal to hunt here from October to February, no limit. State is pushing a bill now for $5 bounty, but most farmers pay $20 for anything near their land. I just wish these fucking ground moles that fucked my lawn last week were as easy to kill as coyotes.

FYI Coyotes aren't exactly predators (certainly not apex preds), they are mostly scavengers with fangs. They will eat almost anything, kill anything they can. They breed faster than most food sources can sustain them. A real predator like a wolf will only kill when it needs to. Coyotes leave or bury much more food than needed.
What sucsk is all I get around me is sky rats. Giant oak trees over driveway + squirels = noticable car dents and a pain to walk barefoot. Unfortunately I can't legally own a firearm now. :'(
