Title: Gsr rebuild - p72 or pr3 pistons?
Post by: HiProfile on October 24, 2009, 02:22:23 AM
To make a long story short, I got a gsr shortblock with a spun bearing for a great price, then found another gsr longblock for almost the same price. (I love poor people) So I'm going to rebuild & use one for a complete GSR, then build the other this summer to go from D16 turbo to B18 turbo.

For $50 extra is it worth it get pr3 pistons to bump it from 10:1 to ~11.5:1? Realisticly it would be more like $25, since I could pawn off the p72's for some cash. Everything else would be stock, aside from maybe a cheap i/h/e setup, along with ectune. I haven't found any compairisons, since most people don't stop with just pistons. Keep in mind this would just a temporary setup for a daily driver.

The other thing would be "resale value". I'll be selling it later on, and thinking some ricer would foam at the mouth for a chance at a fresh, high CR GSR block...

I have Nippon PR3's if you need them. They are brand new with rings I can do it dirt cheap...

Shoot me a price. I really don't care if I used some old pistons tho, this is RHMT.

They look like that.

Thats really a decent deal, but let me think about it. I'd like to see what these other nogs say about the upgrade first.

IMO, either go with the PR3s or a set of the ITR replica pistons.  If you were to buy either set new, the price is about the same, and the ITRs should have a slightly taller compression height to match the B18C block.

So, yes to me it would be worth it for the bump in compression.

I'm not a fan of high dome pistons as a way of bumping compression.  The burn doesn't like to climb the dome, or be throttled between the dome's peak and chamber roof.

If you want more CR, follow snm95ls' advice and get it off of the correct compression height piston w/ a smaller dome.

Since when does anyone give a fuck what you think? :P

Its not that I'm trying to get mad compression, just a modest increase for a few bones. I'd rather get usdm p73's for a smaller dome, but they're not as common, as well as overpriced.
