Title: junk yard exhaust
Post by: marcj on October 28, 2009, 08:09:28 AM
found this dodge ram cummins diesel exhaust resonator for $25.. I figure it muffles the 6.7L turbo diesel, so it should work ok on a little honda motor. usually I've just ran open downpipe, but since I went 3", the sound is unbearable.

it's 3" in 4" out

do you guys think it will work alright?  I had a guy who gives pretty good advice say it's not worth the work because the cummins diesel most likely beat the shit out of it, and it will be clogged full of soot.

concrete drill bits uber long do the trick when hollowing out cats.  i've never played with one of those resonators but you could do the same

resonators are usually a straight through design with a baffle.. no modification needed

Most newer trucks have a device I forgort the name of. Unless the guy removed it or it failed, it shouldn't be clogged. It collects all soot from the exhaust just after the header(s), then the ecu basicly heats the EGT's enough to burn all soot out everywhere. You can literally ignite leaves with the heat if you remove the stock vented exhaust tip.

Are you talking about the "afterburner"? It's there to clean out the cat, and kicks on every so often. It's just a flamethrower type setup in the exhaust. Fucking emmissions...forcing people to over engineer too much shit really

if you want to clean it out buy couple cans of carb cleaner and hit up the local car wash

less than 5 bucks and it should be damn near spotless afterwards

haha that sounds fun pictures and videos as well. get a gallon size zip lock bag and fill it full of gas and toss her in there. once it ignites let the fun begin haha.
