Does anyone know how to do it? My tuner-top died and I had maps and other shit on ther that I needed. My buddy that works on P.O.S. systems let me borrow a board the plugs intot the back of the laptop drive and then to a PC IDE cable but it won't recognize the drive. Any suggestions?

If your computer won't recognize the HD, that's probably what's wrong with it.
And clicking on your thread to have that first picture *POW* open right in my face - well played, sir.

There is nothing wrong with the drive. The memory/battery,WiFi card all went out so I scrapped it. I set the master drive to CS and it won't recognize either drive.

Ebay sells adapter for 5$. You use usb cable.

It's much easier to just use a IDE/SATA to usb converter

Plug adapter into drive, power pigtail into drive, plug in the power supply, plug into PC's USB.
I love it because I'm always doing backups of various ide/sata/lappy drives, and can use 1 pc to store everything w/o the OS interfering with the backup. Acronis backup FTW.

Right click on My computer and then select management. Go down the left side of the window and pick Disc manager. Make sure you can see the HD there, you make have to initialize it or change the drive letter.

The computer wouldn't even boot. I got it though. The lappy drive was master by default [no jumper]. I have to make it a slave and voila! It booted and I some of the stuff I wanted. I could not find the maps though.

Grab yourself one of those 10 dollar External inclosers. last one i grabbed came with a 2.5" to 3.5" IDE adapter. no more jumper BS.
they come in real handy for back ups or restoring yoru shit.

Fyi some times Windows wont pick up a driver fr what ever reason. In that case you can use a live Linux Cd to dump all your info off the Hd.
