Title: Networking help
Post by: 98redcavz24 on November 09, 2009, 08:15:52 PM
So i got this laptop with windows 7 on it and am trying to network it to my desktop which has xp (even though this doesnt matter) so I can copy all my shit over to the laptop.  I already changed all the settings and made the workgroups the same, ect ect. The FIRST time I did this, it worked fine and i was able to see everything. Now I can't seem to get the fuckin thing to see the desktop. I didn't change a thing from the first time when it worked correctly.  I downloaded a service pack but apparently it was refused because I already have the latest service pack microsoft offers.  Anyone know why this would have happened/how to fix?

my laptop does this all the time, it doesnt find the computer in the network.  i figured out by entering "\\" into the address bar, the other computers name will usually show up and then you can click on that and view files/folders/computer youre trying to access.

i had this same problem with the computer / security cams at work in the network... win7 is the reason i believe... make sure you can see it all on your router if not just swap the ports and it will reappear.. for me the cams showed up on xp but 7 didnt see shit.
