Title: DOHC F22B and GT40?!?
Post by: ptil4 on November 10, 2009, 07:06:07 PM
I looked at the compressor maps for the GT40 and I can't figure out if it would be out of the F22B's range. I know that it is better to run lower psi on a larger turbo than to run higher psi on a smaller one so I'm thinking this may be a good idea. Just need verification from the realhmt guys...

Engine is a stock DOHC F22B. 9.2:1 Compression Iron Sleeve. Approximate redline: 7200rpm.
Turbo is a Garrett GT40  A/R: .58 (stamped GT4082).

How much is this thing worth?

I had one of those things... Hot side was retarded big...came off a mid size diesel truck... I think the hotside is too big

Too big unless you want a 2k RPM powerband. An Hx35 or 40 would be ideal though.

That thing looks like it may be a VNT turbo.  Can you get a better picture of the hotside and the box on the side?

Looks like it is VNT. The crap on the side has a plug, but no visible actuator (traditional "bulb"). It also looks like it's a replacement for a newer Holset H351VE (Dodge Ram), which itself is more like a hx35/40 hybrid in terms of the wheels.

Assuming it's not fucked, it will either be way to big or possibly restrictive if you lock the VGT parts open or closed. As mentioned above, an H1C/E or HX40 would all spool alright on that motor. An HX35 would make for a fun STREET car.

Where do you get a few psi on a big turbo is better than more on a smaller turbo?
