I'm in the market for a CRX for fun,
Wondering if I should opt for the 88-89 HF because it is the lightest of the gen 2s, or if the Si could be made equally light by removing sunroof, AC, etc.
The plan would be to build up a d16a6 or z6 motor for it, so getting an Si with a running a6 is attractive, but since I'm not pressed for time, would the HF be a better choice?

88-89 HF, 1800 lbs, no stripping needed.
My 89 CRX HF is under 1800 lbs, radio and speakers were removed :(

agreed
just buy the lighter car, they are cheaper anyways
-
I agree, but stripping is free, whereas if I get the HF then I gotta buy a d16 motor/trans.
If I removed all the bs from an Si (sunroof, AC, etc) would it weigh the same as the HF?
-
I wouldnt ruin an SI with the intentions of making it an HF... I kind regret gutting out my SI (Civic). Wish I would have done it to an STD or DX.
Just go with the lighter chassis (as stated), if youre concerned with weight. But its not like a CRX SI is all that heavy to begin with...

Just do what I did, find the lucky car.
89 CRX HF, Si driveline, Teg rear brakes Koni's, ST bars, H&R springs, thickwall exhaust, DOHC ZC tranny with Quaife, 8 lb flywheel, 6 puck unsprung clutch......
Bought not built, but built like I would have.

Agreed.
If there's a turbo strapped to this build, don't fucking worry about it and enjoy having a nice-ish car, ASSuming you don't start out with a Crapper McDaniels style CRX

Altezza lights were installed seven owners ago, none have seen fit to remove them. Now visualize the condition of the rest of the vehicle.
