Title: car goes into drive but nothing happens in reverse

friend mentioned this to me a couple days ago, i had forgotten about it. its a ford explorer, it drives fine, but when you but it into reverse the thing acts like if its neutral. autotragic obviously. her go to mechanic says the tranny is fucked, i have no idea, and that why im asking. i figured if it goes into drive and shifts fine and just reverse is the issue, and cant be the tranny. but wtf do i know.

tranny is fucked.

what year is the exploder? if its electronically controlled its possible that it won't shift into R and other wise the tranny is fine.

but its probably fucked

ik ppl who have this problem in ford C4 ik the 4R70W tranny(if that is whats in it) is different but usually has similar problems it usually is direct clutch failure with will also cause 3rd gear to fail

$5 bucks says its a A4LD tranny.


This is realy commin with thise trannys, No your tranny is not fucked. It just nees an adjustment. My stepdads ford ranger dose the same thing.
But if you leave it in reverse for 5-10 seconds it will go into gear....lol

I think it has something to do with the leaking reverse piston band seal thingy....loll

i bought a car like this before(bought it from my unlce to resale because he was moving). was a 91 lexus drive was fine just no reverse. sometimes on a real cold day it would partially move.
also a guy in high school use to have a car that he would always have to push back because it had no reverse but drove fine. i could see this on a truck and being a girl would suck.
