WAY too much going on there, and too much to remove to get to the goods.  I suspect a more intelligent human race will take measures against this sort of thing.

I got a 16x60 gearhead Clausing. :) but no 3 phase to run it. :(

String some alternators together and tap off pre bridge rectumfire and build a transformer.  rhm3ph
Hahahahaahahahaa

Actually I'll either end up buying a rotary converter or finding a 3 phase generator. I know people who use 3 phase on their shrimp boats, so I just need to find an old one they're retiring and use it.

What horsepower is the motor? I have been using Toshiba "FRENIC" drives lately that take single phase and pulse it 3 phase. You can't get full power though.

It's a 5-7HP motor, not sure without looking at it. I really don't want to buy a static converter as those break easy and only deliver ~2/3 of the power. Rotary converters work great, but a 10HP rotary converter is around 700 for a cheap one....

You can get Allen-Bradley Powerflex4 drives for $100 or less on eBay, they have a native single->three phase converter built into the 2hp and under units.  I don't see anything affordable for bigger phase converters but I really don't know the market that well.

A-B is a good choice, and I use the entire range of their drives, but holy jebus are they proud of their equipment. Solid state drives don't die unless you do something stupid like configure it for thirty times the motors current limit, or douse it in water. I've got a 165amp (fla) motor at work that the knuckleheads max out to 1300amps continuous about twenty times a day on a two year old AB powerflex drive. It doesn't even get hot. It will disconnect the SCrs and save itself in milliseconds. 5hp motors are easy to find drives for with 3 phase converters. You could also get the frame number of the motor and get a higher HP motor to offset the power loss. Just rattling off ideas here. Good luck with your machine.

Does yours say Bridgeport? Mine does. If not then I will match you a mom fucking, and raise you a grandma fisting.

Also I tried calling you about the windows 7 thing yesterday. Call me sometime so I can see if I can help.

Shit, that's an awsome idea. I had to pass on a big fully-equiped ENCO vertical mill a while back, made me really sad. But when I get a giant pull barn planted, I'll be using my connections to get some real industrial shit.

Yeah, or lets their big chain hanging around their neck catch a jaw in a lathe.... MANY ways to kill yourself in a machine shop.

I started to lean over a car wearing a hoodie last week, noticed the strings to tweak the hood dangling and the (running) car's exposed timing belt before they got a foot from each other and was like, "no."  Took the hoodie off, no problem whatsoever.

I'll also successfully shut off any vehicle I'm in that has a runaway e-throttle.  I'm merely competent like that.

that's fine, we'll just apply the remainder of their dues to everyone else's. call it an idiot tax.

I love sparkfun, but damn some of their simpler components are expensive. I almost feel bad for people who pay that much. Btw, did you ever do anything with the xbee's and remote tuning?

You're thinking of someone else, or confusing the generic china bluetooth-serial converter I bought and then lost.
