Title: Any tips for hunting pig/deer/turkey?
Post by: LS1pwNzJ00 on March 18, 2009, 02:00:51 AM
Well maybe not hunting, just killing. My friend has 110 acres that i went shooting on today and he said hes taken 2 pigs so far this year and seen turkey and deer.  I wanna try kill some of the mentioned animals and possibly eat them if the 7.62x39 softpoints dont blow them up.  Pics of assassinate animals to follow if i succeed.  Will be using an AK for hunting  O0

Well don't make lots of noise and fire off rounds at random shit. For deer they are usually moving at either sunup or dusk. So be prepared to settle in and wait. You could try placing some salt blocks. If there is any hay on the property they are probably there eating it early in the morning and after dark. Deer spook pretty easily and have a good sense of smell so try and stay down wind of them. You  are hunting with an AK so hit them wherever you want.

shoot the pumps, heart and lungs, then sit for 15-30 minutes, then track the blood trail.

(if your refering to its power)
dont play into liberal gun hate, the ak round is actually underpowered compared to .308 or .30-06. please remove that thought from your head.

7.62x39 HP is a near perfect cheap game round for whitetail and smaller, quite popular in states that allow centerfire rifles for hunting like WVa.

not like i really give a fuck, but some asshole govt loser that might see you, or some asshole govt loving cock sucker might call the govt losers on you...

well what i'm trying to say is, if you're going to hunt with your ak you need a 5 round magazine. because 5 rounds is the limit for hunting deer.

i have a 5 round mag, but its 110 acre property, fenced in with locked gates and the terrain is hilly with a few small canyons.  people shoot on their property all the time.  We let off a buncha rounds early BDVT style bumpfire.. yeah bumpfire, fun.

Plenty of shooting out in the north bay area. You can also just spray people in Vallejo it means you like them. Plus their is a popeye's so after you go buy country club crest for pills you can enjoy the best fried chicken in town.

If you go for turkey's use a shotgun. A rifle will fuck the meat up too much, especially a 7.62.

You need to be camouflaged and be very still. Turkey's have excellent eyesight.

If you're out with a rifle don't bother with turkeys, stick to the pigs and deer.

what you need to understand is that game warden jurisdiction goes well beyond where your local sheriff/police jurisdiction does. probable cause goes a LONG way...

nonetheless, aim for the heart, right behind the front leg. get a good hit and you wont have to track it very far

The game warden has the most power of any state police officer.  No warrant needed for searching, probable cause can be as much as hearing rapid fire of more than 5 shots, no "elephant in a breadbox" restrictions, etc.  Basically a game warden can roll up in your property whenever he feels like it for basically anything.
motherfuckers are bat shit crazy as well, the warden around us will hide in bushes and ditches with an old rifle stock with a big ass spotting scope on it and watch you hunt. bitch will just walk out of nowhere when your in the woods.

i dont think theres really a gamewarden around here, it isnt a place that is hunted on very often, 5 min drive and youre back in the middle of a city.  Its not public land so i don't think we'd have any trouble.  But either way we'll make sure to hike quite a ways.

I think soft point 7.62x39 is probably more deadly than HP wolf x39.  Anyone care to say different? i'd like to know aswell because im just guessing.

yep, i've dropped a deer with 1 shot from a 22.  Lucky shot, hit it right in the neck

.22 rimfire from about 8-10 yards, popped off 2 shots from my 10/22, deer was dropping after the first
Title: Re: Any tips for hunting pig/deer/turkey?

haha yeah shot placement is everything, 15-20round of .22 couldn't drop this other deer and he ended up falling down the hillside.

Remember only hits count, a hit with a .22 is better than a miss with a 50bmg

Taken a bunch of deer with .22LR.  Eyes are easy to hit at 50yards, and then it just kinda bounces around in there.  It gets hit, the .22 goes in, plays pinball while the deer stands there with a dumb look in it's eyes and then falls like 5 seconds later.  TILT

It's funny though some ppl don't believe it's possible, not practical but 100% possible.

It's very practical.  HBAR Remington 597 .22LR will put rounds downrange with the kind of accuracy you need to take a deer at 50 yards if you are a halfway competent shooter.
