So i have a 94 civic shell sitting in my garage and wanted to take the back windshield and quarter glass off before i get rid of it. Anybody have tips on how without buying special tools?
-
back windshield is easy with normal hand tools.
guitar string/piano wire the quarter glass. take some locking pliers and snag the ends of the wire with them and saw away (use pliers as handles), or just get some nice thick gloves so you don't destroy your hands
-
What hand tools would you need for the back windshield, and how would you go about doing it?
I have guitar string so ill give that a try, appreciate the help.
-
porcelain spark plug insulator
break off a piece and toss it at the window, it will come right out :noel:

you are good at posting porn, but this isn't rocket science.
10 and 12mm are safe bets. channel locks to get the gas shock off the window. if you really want to know, look at the car or better yet, download a honda service manual and see what it says

I realize its not rocket science, but id rather not damage the glass.
also i should have mentioned its a coupe, not a hatch.

If you aer planning on selling/shipping your glass it cannot be insured for breakage.

Was planning on selling locally.

for my old crx quarter glass i paid a puerto rican at a junk yard 3 dollars (bought him a hot dog and a soda from the hotgod stand at the j/y) to cut it out with a pocket knife. it only took him maybe 10 minutes

Very few things will hurt that glass. Striking it on it's edge, tossing a brick at it, the obvious will. At the most carelessness will get you super-minor scratches on the edge.
All the windows are attatched with is window sealer crap. Cut that shit and it's free. Don't pull too hard and it will be fine.
-
i say to use a fishing strigs, put it ins and use like dintol floss back on fourth motion
-
People actually buy used glass? I see that crap on local craigslist stuff and wonder if anyone actually ever sells it. I have parted out dozens of integras and just throw rocks at the windows, usually drunk.

thats more fun that selling it anyways. every time i goto the junkyard im have an impusle to trow shit at the windows and i usually act on that impusle

-Pull the perimeter seal
-Heat up the outside of the glass using a hair dryer or heat and strip. the glue is like beyutl , thick gooey black shit
-Once it's gooey use a Low D string from an acoustic guitar. Wire works ok , Low E's have ridges and are strong.
-work around slowly , keep heating as needed.
-fishing line , or other smooth wir works, but takes a lot more time
-if your baller HF used to sell a cheap heated windshield removal tool... but I always had luck doing the above.
-
I did my hatch quarter glass with piano wire and heat gun works great took about 5 mins a side
-
use some of that cable that people use for hanging heavy paintings..
i used to use shit from my bicycle brake cable
