Title: Utorrent problems
Post by: RotaryGeek on December 09, 2009, 12:59:53 AM
Ok so im almost done downloading 2 movies (one is at 99.7% and the other at 81.3%) and they both pretty much stopped downloading at once. They are both dl'ing at 0.3 k/bs. It will take weeks to finish either of them. What can i do? I already stopped the downloads then force started them again just fucking around. Then i restarted the whole computer and it still didn't help anything.

How many seeds/leechers are you connected to?
Title: Re: Utorrent problems
Post by: RotaryGeek on December 09, 2009, 01:05:31 AM
0(85) seeds  50(618) peers.

Are you somehow limiting yourself to 50 connections? I don't use utorrent so I'm not sure what the options are.

I don't know. How would i go about checking that?
Title: Re: Utorrent problems
Post by: RotaryGeek on December 09, 2009, 01:21:07 AM
I just checked, it was stuck at 50. I changed my connection speed so it says 125 now. Lets see if it changes any.
Title: Re: Utorrent problems
Post by: RotaryGeek on December 09, 2009, 01:26:28 AM
it changed to 0.7 kb/s. I don't even know if that is becuase i changed it though. Its pissing me off. I changed it to 2000 now. It still hasn't changed.

I believe that means you're downloading from ZERO of 85 seeds. Hell, who the fuck am I with this techy shit anyway?

Right

btw don't download from public trackers unless you want to deal with this regularly and risk getting DMCA letters forwarded from your internet provider.

Turning up your speed limiter has nothing to do with the max number of allowed connections.  Go to the preferrences menu and turn your brain on.

BTW, I torrent from coffee shops.

I use Peer guardian and just go to torrentz.com

you can find peer guardian here. http://phoenixlabs.org/pg2/ (http://phoenixlabs.org/pg2/) it basically blocks your IP address from most Government IP's RIAA IP's Educational IP's yada yada.  the lists are updated frequently.

www.torrentz.com (http://www.torrentz.com)  there's the site for torrentz.  It works like this, go to the page and tell it what you want like goodfellas.  it will then list all the torrents it "sees" with goodfellas.  then you pick one, it will then take you to a page that will show you how many different sites are hosting that particular torrent.  then you click on one and it will take you obviously to their site where you can click the link to DL it.

I had all that in a write up once that walked you through it but i think it was on the old site.

Half the time you can't update lists with PG2, it's sort of turned into failware.  Peerblock is the new deal, supports Vista and 7 as well as XP, and it's much easier to configure lists.

They don't sue anymore, they just send you letters.  You are welcome to send it back or flip them off, whatever, the ISP will just typically ban you from their services for life after the 3rd time.  Still not a big deal, you can just start service in someone else's name, but it's not as simple as ignoring them.

BTW -- Canada sucks for torrenting.  The Canadians I know from private trackers have their torrenting throttled during peak hours and/or have bandwidth caps.  Wow!

Anyway, they stopped the suing a long time ago, most ISPs here don't throttle (FCC said they'll get angry if USA ISPs throttle), and most don't have bandwidth caps.  Enjoy your throttling and pitiful bandwidth caps while I download well over a terabyte at 20mbps or more.

What do you mean none of them will play the movie?

Download/install vlc media player: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/)

If you're really frisky, get the vastly superior MPC-HC and set it up with ffdshow: http://mpc-hc.sourceforge.net/ (http://mpc-hc.sourceforge.net/)

Peer Guardian is obsolete and no longer developed. Download PeerBlock, it is based off the same code as PeerGuardian but is constantly updated and the list updates work all the time.

For me its cause my cable service throttles me to shit and not to mention the fuckery with 60gb/month bandwidth cap.  I got good speeds on private sites, but couldnt keep my ratios up.

Canada? :P

A chic uses my server since she's there and has to deal with caps/throttling.  And she cycles through some open networks when her cap runs out.

dude its a torrent. if after all this you still arent downloading corectly its cause  either A) you have aids or B) the torrent you are trying to DL has no seeders and you dont realize it even after you've been told.

with that said i think the next logical troubleshooting step is the Bath with a toaster.

If you are still in the same boat 0(52) seeds then you still dont have seeds for that torrent and there are 2 good solutions.

First one:  Fucking Wait longer.

Second one: Find another torrent with more seeds.

41 updates is an awful lot at one time. I have had problems when I have tried to update my wifes laptop with too many at once. You should be able to do a system restore in safe mode and just update a few at a time. That will also show you if any of them are causing you the problem.

System restore is for tards who like reinfecting shit, if your updating windows and need to system restore to fix whatever you've broken just sell your laptop and buy a note pad and some crayons.

I get the same bullshit. I can d/l fast for 5 hours, then they basicly disconnect me. I mean literally put my modem offline until I reset it. I have to limit myself to 50 max connections, and have to run a schedule of 3hrs d/l, 1 hour off. utorrent is nice for that.

I also have a Linksys router, so I port-forward, and then run a software firewall. I actually had someone get a virus through an open port last year...

Another thing I use is something called cFosSpeed. It basicly re-runs your network connection to streamline upload/download to maximize each connection. Uploads now make ZERO hit on my download speeds. May be different if you have a bazillion connections.

Another thing I do if I really need something, I use a custom wifi antenna I made, roughly 8x gain. I just tap into my neighbor's wifi from 1/8 mile away and borrow it overnight.
