Title: Craigslist Scammers....
Post by: Doug on December 22, 2009, 06:11:58 PM
Yeah so figured it was the time for the sister thread  :P

Anyways, I have some crap listed up on Craigslist and keep getting the scam emails of course. One seemed fairly interesting as they want to pay via Pay Pal. The offered to pay an additional $100 for shipping to Cali since they have to "leave on a an urgent medical trip".

I'm tempted to go open up an account at some local bank, create new pay pal account, recv money, trans money, then close bank account and enjoy my free $100 and let them take the hit. Anything negative to come of this? If I don't put in my social into Pay Pal I know there isn't shit they can do.

Unless you are opening the bank account with a fake id (federal offense) it will come back on you.

Truth. They don't need your SSN to get you.

What I meant is Pay Pal can't come after me for a debt when they have no proof who I am. They can't contact the bank and ask my details that's against the law if the bank gives it to them.

Just open a new/disposable paypal account. Get them to send the money to new account, then \"sell\" something to the fake paypal account and transfer the money to your real account.

And do this on a laptop in the McDonalds parking lot. The one with free WiFi.

Fuck You!

Hmm, any reason this wouldn't work?

they just send you a fake email so it looks like you got paid through paypal and they hope you ship the shit without checking/logging in to paypal and/or they hope you log in by clicking the link in their email so they can get into your account

That's why I never look at my email... too much spam anyways. I go to my paypal "favorite", then check via my actual account.

As far as the shell account, I don't think they'd send it to a non-verified, bank-only paypal account. Scammers usually know all the scams. Best you could do is use a (new) legit paypal account, hope the money is deposited legit, then close it after sending a bogus package. Basicly some rocks that have a tracking number, and make sure to buy the shipping label through paypal. At worst, you're out a few bucks for shipping rocks.

Eh this is all too much work. I just thought it would be funny to take their money. I guess I'll resort to giving them fake address's and Pay Pal accounts to send their money to just to annoy them and let them waste their time.

I had the NSA call me up two weeks after I ran him off the site to congratulate me for a job well done.  Some undersecretary in charge of some shit told me he'd buy me some Dennys the next time I was in the DC Metro area.

Next time you are in the DC Metro area, I'll buy you a steak and some beer.  And Buk has not been on the site because he is the one who tried to blow up  the plane in Detroit.
