You know, I really like ectune from what I have seen of it, but the constant BS with the updates, and lock outs are really starting to sway me away from it.

You know what is total fucking bullshit? I updated last night around 10pm thinking I was gonna be a smarty pants.  I hooked the nerd pack up to sweet ride to see if it needed any cold weather IAT trims on my long drive south.

Guess what happens when eCtune is running and midnight of the update hits? IT FUCKING LOCKS UP  >:(

whats more annoying is having bugs and not getting updates (cough:: CROME ::cough)

Taking a couple minutes (seconds for force update PRO users) to upload the new update is such a minuscule reason to be a sandy vagina with herpes.

You guys are instructed days before you get locked out on when to update so use your head and follow the instructions and you wont get locked out.

Your missing the point.

Being completely locked out, regardless if you are notified in advance, is not acceptable.
Citing the ability to 'simply' run force update is rendered pointless w/ the absence of an internet connection.

At a minimum, the update needs to be available or at least a week prior to lock out. It's a simply common sense solution.

For the record, eCtune is the best stuff out there, and it's what I recommend.

oh i thought you were complaining about the monthly updates.  Sorry.  I dont have the total lockout problem since all tuners are email .rar files with the updates included.  I would get irritated in that situation as well.  I believe there is a discussion about that somewhere on the ectune forum that you might want to read or reply to.

I pushed for a change to ectune in this reguard. Tuners normally dont get the updates until the same day it expires.   This was talked about alot at pri, along with finishing up some things, like boost by rear speed, traction control, onboard data logging, plus a few other goodies.

Glad you guys handled this without me, because I do so hate typing when something's been left out.  Keep up the good work.

I'd make suggestions but JD would erase my post again :P I'll just say that you guys must make backups right before an update, and right after. After having my crome license basicly blow up & not replaced for over a year because I had to reinstall Windoze, I don't like taking chances on a license tied to a windows-license-dependant machine ID.

I totally agree about the lockout, there should be at least one freebe in terms of loading after it's expired. Obviously not if Calvin locks you out specifically. If nothign else, just have very reduced capabilities after it expires. Not every home tuner has ectune updated before they hop in the car, and sometimes intranet is just not accessable. My opinion is that Calvin is a touch paranoid, given what I know. I know he calls the shots, but customer service includes a LOT more than just tech support...

Can you just set your system date back if you don't want to update? Worked with Crome

what annoys me most about ectune is having a bunch of cash to drop in his lap for the tuner version, only to suddenly have your emails not responded to cause you dont have a dyno or solid access to one.

who cares if you are street tuning, its still the same cash in his pocket for every car

It works, and the fact that you are forced to in a given situation is more fucked up.

I'm still using Crome Pro/Gold on my car, I remember having to set the date back over a year ago because an update messed things up, but the current version is ok.

And by ok I mean my car hasn't blown up yet. Don't race it much though.

Not sure if going backwards fucks with shit but Calvin gives a warning about messing with your date on Vista

Double check your date. if your date was a few months/day a head ever when launched eCtune.eCtune will remember that date in the future and putting the date correct won't help. A full OS windows reinstall is required. Please don't play with your date.

THAT.

Why I mentioned backing up your entire windows install right after an update, you have to read between the lines. I hate bending the rules, but I wasted half a summer once because I played it straight and got burned with Crome. Whats worse, the incorrect date on a $375 tuning package, or $5000 in parts sitting because you can't get to the intraweb? I recall a few times where the window between the expiration and update being available was 1-2 days. :-\

Total horse shit. Calvin, figure it out. Next time I'm in the Netherlands, I'm tracking him down, buying him a hooker, and demanding action.
