Title: making intake manifold
Post by: walter on May 14, 2013, 11:27:00 AM
Hi guys, im designing an intake manifold i have to fab for a VW 20Vt big port, i will keep stock runners but i will make a new plenum, ok, problem im having is 4Cyl isnt getting enought flow than the other cylinders..im trying to get the best design for to get it , trying and dont get it..gave some degrees to throttle body, wrong, change sizes of plenung..not luck..not sure if anyone can give me some tips...

here is some vids..

first test - flow simulation (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jEUmOcKUiQ0#)

Prueba 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CngSiZPZeJs#)

Colector Prueba 3 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jS7-Gx3nW60#)

What do you think?

Wow, liking your work and designing shit yourself is always, Kool!!!

after to many tests, got this..

Colector Prueba 7 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8woPynMkjpQ#)

i'd like to learn more about this, measure each port and so but this will give me a good advice so far.

Taper the back end to removr the turbulance and increase velosity. The long runners are going to shift your powerband down lower (which is probably where you want it in a 1.8t since vw motors all have longass strokes factory.)

these runners are only for to see what flow/density is get , distance is similar to the stock runners i will keep.

This s the final test..

I hope to get soon materials designet for welding everything.

I will post pics soon.

Thanks!

Walter, what flow modeling program are you using?

What format CAD drawing can it import?

Is it a free program?

Kool, I did not know Solidworks has a flow simulation.  :noel:

Solidworks is awesome, but the Finite Element Analysis portion isn't especially good (meaning, not especially close to real life).

Can that simulation also be done in Autocad/Autodesk? im actually taking a drafting class next semester and wanted to see some flow simulation on an intake manifold idea i wanna try on my car. If its only a Solidworks thing ima have to grab a torrent and try it out.  :noel:
