Title: shitbox with 4g63 and AWD swap
Post by: Killbot on June 01, 2013, 01:32:19 AM
whats up jerkoffs
wanted to share my old piece of shit project with you, i hope you like it.
story goes like this, i bought this 91 eagle summit hatch with a 4g63 already swapped in and promptly destroyed the transmission due to a mishap involving large slicks and the drag strip. I tossed out the evo III 16g in favor of a precision T4 of some sort with an ebay gook manifold and wastegate.
before: still a fwd tire spinner

Then i scored the rear subframe from an AWD eagle talon and a new AWD trans and transfer case and got to work... the pics are what happened next.

needed access to the front and rear motor mounts.

made this front motor mount
(http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i277/turbokid1/200804260007.jpg) (http://s74.photobucket.com/user/turbokid1/media/200804260007.jpg.html)

this is the high end engineering tools i use.  say somthin'
(http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i277/turbokid1/200804260001.jpg) (http://s74.photobucket.com/user/turbokid1/media/200804260001.jpg.html)

and in place
(http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i277/turbokid1/200804260008.jpg) (http://s74.photobucket.com/user/turbokid1/media/200804260008.jpg.html)

then did the rear motor mount.
(http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i277/turbokid1/200805030016.jpg) (http://s74.photobucket.com/user/turbokid1/media/200805030016.jpg.html)

so now that the new motor mounts are finished that make room for the transfer case we move to the back. This is the talon AWD subframe behind the summit, soon to be in the summit.

then i cut a big hole in the back...
(http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i277/turbokid1/200805100007-1.jpg) (http://s74.photobucket.com/user/turbokid1/media/200805100007-1.jpg.html)

(http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i277/turbokid1/200805170013.jpg) (http://s74.photobucket.com/user/turbokid1/media/200805170013.jpg.html)

in order to actually attach the rear end to the car i had to fab some mounts. What, you mean your bench vice is actually attached to a bench? Pussy.

(http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i277/turbokid1/200805170015.jpg) (http://s74.photobucket.com/user/turbokid1/media/200805170015.jpg.html)

(http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i277/turbokid1/200805210017.jpg) (http://s74.photobucket.com/user/turbokid1/media/200805210017.jpg.html)
(http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i277/turbokid1/200805220038.jpg) (http://s74.photobucket.com/user/turbokid1/media/200805220038.jpg.html)(http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i277/turbokid1/200805220041.jpg) (http://s74.photobucket.com/user/turbokid1/media/200805220041.jpg.html)

let it be known that i received exactly zero help from anyone doing this swap thats why you see alot of jack stands, jacks, and wood blocks kicking around so i could maneuver this heavy hunk of metal up and down a zillion times to make it fit properly.
(http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i277/turbokid1/200805170027.jpg) (http://s74.photobucket.com/user/turbokid1/media/200805170027.jpg.html)

pulled the engine out to replace the hurt transmission and install a new clutch and also tore apart the front end to switch the front to DSM 5 lug to match the back.
(http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i277/turbokid1/200807070001.jpg) (http://s74.photobucket.com/user/turbokid1/media/200807070001.jpg.html)

now back on the ground in all its AWD 5 lug glory.

so, thats that. all the running gear of a talon all the looks of a geo metro. If i have to explain why this car is cool, you're already too far gone.

also, heres a sneak peak of the new car im working on. Its a ford festiva with a mazda BP 1.8 swapped in.. soon to be turbo.
I guess i have a thing for small hatchbacks that look slow.

I like where it's headed but, one good launch at the track and you will wish you used thicker wall square tubing.
