Title: LS B18B ching chong t3/t4 (nsfw)
Post by: snarf on March 13, 2009, 01:20:17 AM
OK I was a member on the old site for a few years but with work and school and all I never had much free time to play with boost.  But know that I have more time so I decided to boost my DD parts getter.

this was my old setup.

1996 Integra
Nissan turbo
Cheep ic pipes
big intercooler
CDM Blow off valve
Spring on the wastgate flapper
Chipped p75
DSM 450's
$20 boost gage from Harbor freight
Oil feed & return
OBD1 injector plugs
OBD0 resistor box
Home made downpipe with a stick welder

New setup

ching chong meow T3/T4 63 AR
chines wastegate
bulkhead oil return line

OK so that old Nissan turbo was leaking oil from the turbine side probably due to a worn shaft piston ring.  I needed another turbo but didn't want to spend to much and still needed to keep a/c and ps. I had some bad luck buying old turbos so I went for a CHING CHONG MIAOW!

The turbo was being sold for 135 but had an option to make an offer so I offered 130 and it was excepted. It came with an oil supply line and restrictor and for six dollars more you can get an oil return fitting with it. When I received the turbo I was very surprised to find something else in the box, and no it wasn't little grains of rice. It was a 1/2 in downpipe flange!

I made this downpipe with my new (to me) lincoln weld-pack hd 100

I then went down to parkers and spent about $50 bucks to complete my oil return line I got an aluminum bulkhead fitting assembly, a -10an 90 and one foot of blue hose. I used some hondabond on the bulkhead and really cranked down on it so it wont leak.

Is it up and running?

Remember to run a TINY ass oil restrictor (1/16th) or so, although this would be dependent upon oil pressure to said oil line....

My wagon is proof that the Ching Chong T3/T4 does work and work fairly well.  Over 300 whp out of a subaru, so of course Honda is gonna make more.

Curious to see what the spool/lag time will be.  Please post some vid of the tach if you can starting at 2000 rpm in 3rd or 4th,.

This thing ran fine for the first 10k miles boosting every day.  Just a few days ago the car started to make a little noise at idle.  I'm not sure if I was starving it for oil or what since my dipstick broke in two.  So I changed the oil and the oil return line.  The car then started to smoke like crazy and hasn't stopped.

I've gotten "freshly rebuilt" turbo's from blaast that put that much oil in the chargepipes with a .060 restrictor and perfect drain, after less than 3,000 miles.

Yea, I want to have the nissan turbo rebuilt but I've read a lot of scary story's about rebuilt turbos.

Meh.  Just rebuild it yourself.  I had a long conversation today with my friend at Borg-Warner about how the rotating assemblies of turbos become unbalanced after one good load cycle.  You can dynamically and statically balance them, do a good pull, and their out of balance.  You have to think that one drop of oil on a compressor that spins 150,000 rpms is way out of balance.  Heat a turbine shaft to operating temps, and let it cool slowly, and it will warp.  Everything throws the assembly out of balance.  Just fucking rebuild it yourself.

I just got this from a friend.  This turbo has been to war and back, literally!
It was ordered for a land rover back in Iraq but never got put on.  This turbo is very small and is a Tbo2 I believe.  I'll probably us it on my d16z6.

Sir, my integra LS log manifold smaill 16g setup, compressor surged itself to death because it was spooling at 1200 rpm and 14psi at 2200.  It out-spooled srt4's and could jump bolt-on vettes from a roll.
