Title: my sinktrap manifold.. work in progress
Post by: marcj on March 07, 2009, 01:46:47 AM
I'm not too happy with the manifold I have, so I decided to use the sinktrap idea to make the best out of it without spending anything. I had problems when I was installing my HX35; first off the wastegate flange hit the turbine housing, then the manifold put the turbo too low and the compressor housing was hitting my cross member, and lastly the drain flange sits too low and I don't want to risk a brand new HX35.

materials used: 3" stainless 180, 2x T3 flange

I had the same problem. The turbo was hitting the crossmember on my teg. I heat it with a torch and hit it with a 2lbs hammer. The oil drain still low tho, but it works well.

Nice idea I can use my header to make ghetto top mount for one of my T04b(s-trim) and clear my sc14 for a twhincharged D16z6.

This is why love RHMT for the low budget tech.  ;D

I did something like that, but added a big hammer to the heat, and smashed it out kinda flat. Seems like on Brine04's teg we cut out the back part and welded in a support kinda like c notching a frame.

If you can make a sinktrap extension, you should be able to make a tubular x-member replacement like innovative mounts makes or box it out with steel plate. BTW I have the same shoes.

At least you won't be hiding such a badass turbo now. Are you making a 4" DP, or a 3" to fit with the stock rad fan??

4", the worst part is I just bought a ss thermal 3" exhaust for 90 bucks, so it's going to be the bottle neck for high boost pulls. oh well

yeah I wish I could make a split pulse manifold.. has anyone even tested a split pulse setup against a regular on a holset setup?

the big 16g guys swear by it.

Keeping my eyes on this. I want to make my own sink trap.

+1 I want use the top half of my header.

I'm debating if should just have it made in mild or stainless.

Probably mild I'm on a super tight budget. :'(

made some angle cuts so the ends match up right.. essentially you want to put the flange between #1 and #2. it's close enough for me. I'm waiting on my T3 flange to get here, and still need to level off the top

Title: Re: my sinktrap manifold.. work in progress
Post by: marcj on March 10, 2009, 07:44:34 PM
i planned on it.. what would you suggest the best place would be? I was thinking from the T3 flange at the collector straight out.. I know an X would be ideal
Title: Re: my sinktrap manifold.. work in progress
Post by: HiProfile on March 13, 2009, 02:45:40 AM
I'd brace it down below to the AC/mount holes, then maybe have a tab that catches the top of the T3 flange on the manifold. Adding that tab would make removing it a bit tricky tho. A nice thick chunk of steel to the AC bracket would probably work fine, just make sure it's mostly on the 2nd half of he bend -- the elbow half that goes to the turbo. I'd actually shorten both legs on the whole extension, which would allow for a better angle for the brace.

it's stainless.. no paint needed.. i am going to wrap it though so the intercooler doesn't get hot.

i'm also thinking about making a heat shield for the turbine with a stainless cooking pot

based on working with mine for the past two days, this REALLY isn't going fit unless you REALLY cut up the top of your radiator support. you want to hang the turbine housing over the first portion of runner 1 & 2 like this:

+1  for my twincharge setup so I can mount the turbo high enough to clear my s/c and still not touch my radiator. ;D

Plus it seems to be a cost effective was to get my turbo in the right place with spending $300 for a SPA topmount.

benefit is 4" downpipe clearance, better oil drain, and A/C compatible with a big ass turbo

goal is around 450whp with a bigger set of cams

also, lag doesn't exist when you have anti-lag and full throttle shift anti-lag setup

it's a little laggy on the street compared to my T3/T04E, but it hits much harder past 5k rpm

one of my biggest issues is, it doesn't spool like the T3/T04E did from just stabbing the throttle.
I did double the manifold volume so I guess that's to be expected.

can't wait to do a 20psi run with a drag clutch

You'd be surprised what fits with a sinktrap or elephant mani - mine fits in an EG with full OEM AC parts, 3" dp, and stock rad fan - just don't expect to have P/S:
