Title: pedal car build
Post by: toyolla86 on January 05, 2010, 11:09:33 PM
im planning a build only its N/A back to the days of flintstone.
a pedal car. foot power son!
its for my baby boy and ill be taking a while to build it.
heres what ive got so far. 6in wheels for the front 7's for that back.
square tubing (aluminum) for the frame
some metal rod for pedal and steering
and a 4x12 sheet of aluminum for $25 thats gonna be the body.

im planning on doing a 1932 5 window coupe.

im trying to design the steering but having a hell of a time figuring out a basic steering mechanism without making control arms. any ideas. the old school ones use a really good basic design but i cant find a pic of it on the web.

+1 to this just use angle aluminum, even aluminum square tubing gets heavy

build this for the little guy, and start him of early.

yeah this is why im trying to go as basic as possible.
like the steering needs to be basic.
i just figured it out. it'll have 4 elbow joints with pins keeping them in place.
maybe ill post a pic of the design.

i hope that's a girl wearing those shoes and posing like that.
no son of mine is gonna pose on a car like a faggot.
men either stand next to their car or get out of the picture
Can you get those shoes at the dollar store?

Can you get those shoes at the dollar store?
NO
niggers, beaners and white trash don't wear those shoes.
only rich white people or wannabe rich white people do.

Uhhh, if his dad is baller enough to build that, I would venture a guess that he probably isn't hurting for money.

who is talking about the kids dad?
i said that only rich white people and wannabe rich white people wear those shoes. those two types of people don't shop at dollar stores, so why the fuck would the dollar store sell those shoe.

for all i know the kids dad is a rich white person, fuck i don't even care about that.
just as long as he's happy his son is a faggot.

Oh ok, so if your dad is rich, your not considered to be well off, because you are not your dad. Especially at 8 or so years of age.

Can't beat that dollar store logic.

I think it needs to be a little bigger.  Also, put an engine on it.  Preferably with a horsepower rating of around ten.  For safety, put a governor on it, and your kid will gain an interest in mechanics quickly by figuring out how to disable it to he can haul ass.
Title: Re: pedal car build
Post by: Phate on January 18, 2010, 02:17:19 AM
ha ha, i was gonna say it's a little small.

10 hp is probably a little much, should toss a 80cc(66cc) 2stroke motor in it like the one i have on my bike.

I think 5-10 is about perfect, especially if its nerfed down in a variety of ways (throttle linkage not opening to full, governor, etc).  You could make it like a puzzle for him to figure out how to make it haul ass.  Like the go-karts at six flags that if you know the guy running the ride can go 50mph with the governors disabled.

hahaha i think im gonna keep it leg pwr'd for now. its more of a toy/stroller for now.

im making it way bigger on poster board. just drew up the sides and will be cutting them out soon.
ive got a lot on my plate so this will be taking a while to finish

made the grill a little more realistic. and started in on the hood.
as you can tell ive only just started the hood. its not even cut. just bent into place.

ill be cutting it out of the sheet aluminum as soon as i get this one all mocked up perfectly.

btw this will be my first time working with sheet in this fashion.

yeah it'll be more for pushing him around at car shows at first. then ill let him cruise it supervised. hahahaah.
then when he's too big its getting put away.

I'm sure you've thought of this already... but where does he get into it?  Will the top be removeable or?  And for the steering you could do a linkage from the steering wheel to another 'wheel' with two bars protruding from it, and the "control arms" could be attached to the bars... that probably doesn't make any sense.  Maybe I'll try drawing later if I'm feeling inspired
Title: Re: pedal car build
Post by: toyolla86 on February 05, 2010, 09:18:46 PM
yeah the top will have a big ass hole in it where he'll be sitting out of it.
and the steering took forever to figure out ( i reinvented the wheel)
but i got it. hopefully it works well.

top is coming along as well. just did this part tonight.

as soon as i get all the body parts done ill tack them all together and start pounding dents out. lightly of course.
this metal is super pliable.

Use a leather sand flled bag and a rubber or plastic mallit. Or make a wodden slapper mallit. It'll work good and won't mar or over work the metal.

In spring I got idea to build a 4 wheel pedal car for my son. To use wheels from old bicycles, to make it as small and light and simple as possible and to make it possible to fit even an adult person.
I was really disapointed surfing internet, as I found almost no free ideas, plans or experiences how to do it. It is no nuclear science, people would invest millions in their know-how, so they would need to hide it!
Now it's autumn now and our car is done. I decided to share my experiences and detailed photos as free plans with other people, interested in self buliding pedal car of that kind.
I wanted my 9 years old son to learn basics of construction and working with metal and wood. He did almost all hand works by himself and he is very proud on it. It is a very good way to move your child from TV and computer games!
