88 4wd wagon swap
« on: January 10, 2010, 11:04:41 PM »

a buddy and I were tearing into a 88 multipoint A6 to replace the stock valve that dropped and blew the engine, and ran into a problem.  The plan was to use the d15b8 shit box engine that I had laying around to just flip the car and get it back on the road for a sale, but the 4wd wagon has a freaking intermediate shaft.  First D series i've seen with one.  I broke my spare eg one and don't feel like going and getting mine to test out the length after we install everyting, and the b8 block doesn't have the three bolt holes for the intermediate shaft.

So does anyone know if we can use the b8 engine, stock 4wd transmission and a one piece long driver's side drive shaft?

fuck no you can't, theres no bosses for holes.  i was thinking drill, tap then spacer, but its right where there is an oil drain back to the pan from the head.

I had a d series might have been my zc, that had the bosses but no holes, I guess the d15 isn't like that.

correct on the bigger inner joints. can you use a Bseries pass inner joint and drivers D axle? sounds good never tried swapping axle parts tho.

D16A6 and i think all single ZCs have the holes. i also recall seeing D15s and other D16s with boss' that you could tap out. but not sure what ones.

REMEMBER that the oil pans are different for 4WD models! you need to swap your A6 pan onto it.

Yeah, but A1 int shaft bolt pattern is different from ZC.  IIRC, and I may be wrong, A6 and Z6 have the pattern for the ZC shaft.

Not that it matters, I'm making an A1 shaft bolt to an A6 block.  You oval one bolt hole so the shaft is in alignment and then get jiggy with the others.

[nekked lady]

Lets play What's Worse with that picture...I vote hair, with misshaped areolas 2nd.

I clearly recall my buddy with a dohc ZC wagovan from 3 yrs ago. Red awd and hauled decent ass for it's looks. Otherwise convince him to go with vitaras, FJT custom rods, Z6 head, and a big turbo.
