D15b7 92 DX hatch timing belt help
« on: August 13, 2010, 01:49:35 AM »

my first time doing one so im alittle iffy.

I can't take off the crank pully so i wont be able to line the dot to the arrow on oil pump(do i need to do this?)

So far i put it to TDC and loosened the Adjuster and got the belt on (lining up the marks on gears UP and the two lines to the head)
sliped the belt on, and tighten the adjuster bolt down.

It seems way too easy. I'm scared its off a tooth or two.  Any tips you guys can give me? Am i doing it right?

If you don't take the crank pulley off, you can't change the timing belt.

move the crank just a little bit back from tdc then slip the belt on the head at tdc then rotate the crank forward to put some tension on the belt see where the crank lines up again if your a tooth off you will know it so slip the belt back of the cam move it and try again after you have tension on the front side of the belt then tighten the tensioner on the back and you should be set. sounds a lot harder than it really is only takes like 5 min

That ais pretty much how I done 6 hg on b7/b8 jobs.
But you have to make sure everything lines up correctly and stay that way or will have to do it all over again.
