I prefer the semi-realistic aeros of GT racing. Nascar focuses on tuning of old tech, while almost all open-wheel racing is downforce and tech. In 10 years they'll allow robots to race, how fun will that be?

Did I hear correctly that NASCAR is going FI soon?

It would make sense. Nascar was "win on sunday, sell on monday", but show me how many nascar chassis have a v8 carb'd engine in the road/sales version. An FI 4- or 6-cyl would make lots of sense.

There are a lot of hillclimb and track cars with ex-Winston Cup motors, and other such TRASHCAR paraphernalia, floating about.  They are robust, and last a long time in a class where dynamic operation is the norm ie when not held against the rev limiter it's entire life.

While this statement is true, they are still giant multi-cylinder lawn mower engines. It is high time they crawl out of the stone age and inject/boost those dinosaurs.

Few lawn mowers these days are flat heads. Many are even OHV engines. But the bulk are push rod paper weights.

For a second I thought you were Staley Dan to speak of lawn mower engines with such expertise, then I realized that irregardless of how stale he is, Staley Dan understands that OHV is pushrod, fgt.

This.

Unless things have changed since the last time I looked at new push mowers, probably still the most prevalent kind out there, they were all still a L-head design.

Maybe the ones people put on the corners on junk day. All the ones I've seen sold in the last 7 years are all ohv motors.

Not all are pushrods though. Honda GC-junk use a belt to drive a plastic "cam", a gear with lobes that act on followers that pivot on pins. GC160 cam = $10, GX160 metal/gear cam = $61 (both wholesale). Other brands use belts & chains the same way.
