Suspension on the cheap
« on: November 12, 2011, 07:12:26 PM »

Got some tokico blues that are pretty much brand new. I was thinking about cutting the perches off, using some coilover sleeves and getting some proper springs. Anyone ever do this?

Coilover sleeves: can get them in lengths from 4" to 7"

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/AAF-ALL64147/

Springs: Can get lengths from 7" to 15" and rates from 150 to 550

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/HAL-7-350/

Thoughts?

.....oh, and we need a suspension sub-forum.

Looked on the site, bout the same price as summit and far less selection of spring rates. I ordered a catalog though.

seems kinda expensive to me.
gonna run you $320 for 4 sets.
I'd just pick up some used ground control coilovers

Ur an idiot mike. The whole point is to build a proper suspension setup on the cheap. Off the shelf ground controls do not come anywhere close to be in the category of proper.
I'm the idiot?
you used the words proper suspension and tokico blues in the same sentence.

you can pick up used GC's and get custom springs made. for less money than you are gonna pay for the items you linked to.
just use the sleeves from GC, sell the springs on ht, use the profits to have springs made.
also I would look into local shops to make your springs. we have a place in sd that is a lot cheaper than the ones you posted.

Mike's right for once.  Blues are considered Tokico's OE-replacement shock - no dampening there.

"proper height and spring rate"? You mean you don't want your car to be scraping the ground everywhere you go and bouncing around uncontrollably handeling worse than stock?

I can't comprehend people that think there is anything cool about that.
