B series Transmission help
« on: May 06, 2012, 03:28:52 PM »

So I got this thing years ago, its a gsr transmission (confirmed by counting gear teeth...)  It was opened up when I got it- guy said he was going to put in an lsd but jumped ship on the project.  It wouldn't bench shift very well, and it's been a while since i took a tranny apart so I don't have a great idea of how everything should be.  Check out vid below and tell me if there is way too much play in this fucker?  Or any other insights as to why it won't shift well?  Thanks!

Play looks good to me, keep in mind all those shafts fit into bosses in the other half of the case.

Bench shifting with case off is a no-no.

Everything else looks normal so far.....

Thanks all, I'll stop worrying about it so much.  Just wanted to make sure it was tits before I put it back together.  And how the hell did that happen to that tranny case/bolt?  Dragging on the ground while driving??

low and an idiot owner. The tranny was sold to a customer of mine from a 93 LS teg. The tranny is a 90-91 and FD's don't interchange.

$1500 in tranny parts coming and nothing to put them in. Grand Am weekend at Mid Ohio is coming up and this tranny needs to be perfect to take a new track record. I cannot stress enough that the big teams will be there, I need a good showing in the support classes that weekend.

Just another national win today....and track record.....

Just a lowly tranny builder making sure the drivers have no shifting issues :)
