Painted IC or not painted
« on: March 16, 2013, 10:47:23 AM »

well i have been debating on painting my IC. It really doesn't matter to me. just wanted to see what your preference was and if you think i should do it as well. Also was trying to figure out ways to cover the IC hanging below my bumper? I really don't want to cut the frame.

Yes paint it,
option 1. Smaller intercooler
Option 2. Cut bumper support and move intercooler up.

Flat black that bitch. Too bad you gutted the front. If you had left it and flat blacked the IC it would have been hid pretty well.

Might be able to get a subtle lip for the front that goes down far enough to cover the bottom.

i usually like them painted. i painted mine black in my civic, crx, itr, but not in my gti or vr4... but in the vr4 it sits way back also.

either way not gonna make a difference in your car as the bumper is hacked and the intercooler is falling out the bottom. you need to start fresh with a oem bumper and itr lip. hack the bumper support to move intercooler up and/or a smaller core. dont cut up the grill on the new one, and paint the intercooler black.

Unless your running garden edging, it ain't gonna cover up the intercooler. A reproduction type r lip won't cover it for sure. If you leave it that low all your gonna to do is punch a hole in it when u pull up to close in a parking spot.

it has been raised almost 1 inch more, only problem is i need to wait 9 months when i get back to cut the crash bar. That sounds like my only solution.

Most cars don't have the crash bar anymore. Lol

For me it depends on the car if I like it painted it not. Certain cars I like the big shiny intercooler, others its better flat black. For your car I'd paint it flat black. There really is no performance difference.

Paint it.  Lip kit.  Get bumper that has the grille opening intact still.  If you're going for the sleeper effect i'd even go as far to put a ps cooling loop and an ac-delco sticker on it  Lol.

Diy a crash bar out of some 1.5" dom tubing and throw the stock one in the trash.
